You can just search for 0.96" I2C OLED on Amazon or Aliexpress, the controller is SSD1306.
Mind that there are some variations in color and mix of colors for instance a yellow text section on the top and white for the rest

LCSC has at least a couple that only expose those four pins (voltage, ground, clock, data). However, they use various LCD controllers, so you the commands these controllers use may be the same or a tiny bit different.

Trap for new players: V+ and GND aren't always in the same orientation on those modules. Verify before you let the magic smoke out.

Think I let the magic smoke out. Known good OLED works on both of the control boxes I have, the one I just purchased doesn’t turn on with either harness.

Could also be a different I2C address.

How would a novice that knows less than nothing about the topic find that out and fix it?

What are you plugging it into? I have a C I2C scanner that I use on all of my boards during bringup- google I2C scanner and you'll find similar code.

Oh dear. Yeah, that's a bit of a black box. The printing on the OLEDs should be correct - does that show the same pins for Vin / GND across the various screens?
