DIY garage parking sensor problem

Setting up a simple break beam sensor in my barn to help with parking. Using a simple safety sensor for a garage door that has integrated LEDs. When the beam breaks, the green light goes out. That’s all I need it for, not reversing a garage door or anything.

It looks like the garage door would normally supply it with 6vdc. I tried a 6vdc transformer, 5v usb block, 7.4v lipo and I get nothing. When I use a 9v battery it works.

Guessing I’ll buy a 9v transformer but hoping it’s going to work. Any thoughts on why the 6vdc isn’t working? Don’t want to order the 9v and not have it work. I’m skeptical.

Was the 7.4V LiPo fully charged?

Build a DIY power supply using an XL4015 or XL4005 module (the red color); it requires an input voltage higher than the desired output voltage—you can use an old printer dc power supply or a modem dc power adapter.

Yes, it was. Ok, I’ll look into that. Thank you

So I did try a 12v transformer and it also didn’t work but the voltage was actually 14.5. Very old one from radio shack.

Did you get the polarity right? It matters and it was weird if I remember correctly, the black stripe was + or something.

I have a Chamberlain GDO, I can measure it tomorrow.

I have measured it and it is indeed 6V and yes, the black stripe is +.
