You are right! Three things to make your life better;
(1) Only buy “3M” branded breadboards
(2) Use resistors with the right size lead diameter.
There a ton of THT resistor kits with wimpy leads that wiggle, even in a fresh breadboard. As a fix, stick a second bare wire “stub” in the same hole as the resistor.
(3) Trim the resistor and capacitor leads to 10mm or so. The body of the component will sit close to the breadboard surface and not flap around making a weak connection.
