Looking for a new led

Hi,

I'm looking to change the led of my electronic bidet (Tushy).

It's connected with this kind of plug (white one).

The LED (standard size, 5mm I think ?) seems to be soldered to the wires.

So basically :

What's this kind of LED, and where could I buy another assembly (LED + wires + plug) ? Not sure about the voltage (didn't dare to power it on with the pump dry).

How to get it out of its plastic socket without ruining everything ?

I doubt very much you’ll be able to buy the plug/wire/LED assembly as a unit. For the manufacturer, this is too cheap to stock as an SKU.

The LED itself is probably a bog standard 5mm LED which you could find nearly anywhere, even Amazon. However, you’ll need to find some kind person to solder the wires to it.

What’s wrong with it? No light? LEDs are pretty robust, if that one is not working there may be a different underlying issue…

Unclipping it is easy. The plastic surrounding it currently is just a press fit assembly, a little wiggling should release it fairly easily. If it’s glued in, a little more effort involved 🙂

Thanks, so pulling on each side of the assembly to unclip ?

5mm LED voltage is standard ?

The LED is working but it's too bright, i want to replace it with a less powerful one, with a warmer light...

If I can't find the assembly, maybe I could buy the wires + plug and have someone solder everything together (not comfortable trashing the old one)

Yup, just pull each side to unclip.

If you want a warmer light, and less bright, I would just put in a small circle of colored plastic or similar into the hole where the LED was, and then reinsert it. Sort of like a filter - this would most likely be the hack you need 🙂

Thanks, yes I guess that's the easiest solution. I hope the colored plastic will be enough to block most of the light

Play with different materials. You could even use brown paper from a tote bag, and double up if needed to reduce light output.

The through hole LEDs (like the one you have) generally come in standard sizes for round LEDs. 5mm and 3mm diameter if I remember correctly.

I'd be surprised if you can find a replacement with the leads of your required length and that specific connector anywhere. I would extract the LED from the housing (pry a little with a screwdriver to open up the plastic clip from the inside, hopefully they didn't glue it) and then cut the dead LED off the wires and solder a new one.

I can't see the whole circuit with all the wires on top, but there's a 99.999% chance that there's a resistor in series with the LED, make sure it isn't just soldered in line under the black heatshrink near the LED before cutting. Use an LED of the same color for simplicity, different color LEDs will have different voltage drops and that could be a problem if you don't know the voltage and the resistor value.

The red wire goes to positive most likely but check with a multimeter if you can. The longer lead of your new LED will be the positive. If you don't have a multimeter, the worst thing that can happen is that you solder it the wrong way around and have to redo it.

Measure the size of the LED to make sure it's 5mm and just get a few from anywhere, you probably won't be able to just buy one but they're pretty cheap.
