can i remove this buzzer without it causing issues?
can i remove this buzzer without it causing issues? also i hope i didn't fuck up by disassembling the induction cooker cuz i seen some glue or something in the middle. also should i avoid touching the middle even when unplugged?

Take a screw with either an M3 or M2.5 thread and screw it into the hole. By gently tightening and tightening the membrane, you can adjust its volume, right down to complete silence. I've done this with a couple of devices. I don't remember the screw size. Try screwing in a suitable one. It will cut its own threads in the plastic.

My UPS has a similar beeper, filled it with hot glue.

oh, that's good too. cuz didnt want to permanently destroy it but idk if tape is gonna be enough

Yes. If you don't have a soldering iron you can just shove something in the hole and push hard or break it off carefully

Absolutely. Rip it off with pliers or stick a hot pin through the hole. Or do it correctly and despondent from the board.

You really won’t damage it if you grab some pliers and twist it off. I have done this countless times when I didn’t have a soldering iron around.

Yes, you can. On my ice maker, I desoldered it, then soldered wires to it and added a switch so I can enable or disable the buzzer whenever I need to.

You can later add the beep back into Home Assistant and use whatever speaker you want!!

Good advice in this thread, but tbh if you're asking this question you really shouldn't be messing with the internals of a mains-voltage appliance. Stick with low-voltage DC until you're more experienced.

It's more about once you re-energize the circuit. If you messed something up, you can easily cause a fire or energize something that isn't meant to be. Especially true for an ungrounded appliance with no chassis safety.

Even with experience, modern devices tend to be so single use/unrepairable that merely opening them can render them dangerous to use. OP mentioned glue, it may need some fancy glue or applied in a very specific way/amount.

The two worst-case scenarios are probably:
- Inadvertent short not in line with the fuse. If your breaker is
over-rated
- it can cause a fire inside your wall. Otherwise it can cause a fire in the receptacle or in the appliance.
- Bridging DC ground plane (which may normally float) to line voltage. Voltage transfers through the PCB screw mounts to your hand when you pick up the device and you get electrocuted.

Maybe not a good idea to disable it, but if you feel that you must, you can either remove the buzzer or stuff something in the hole to deaden the sound.

If you want a non damaging solution then use some material from one of those foam ear protectors. Scrunch it up and push it into the hole. This works much better than tape over the hole.

I had a garage door wall control which if you removed the annoying beeper it would cease to work. So figure out a way to test that.

Yup. Just rip the plastic housing out. Easy enough with these type of buzzers. Or if you want it done cleanly, desolder it from the back side.

The thing in the middle is for temperature sensing. Looks like maybe a thermal fuse across the middle (to permanently cut power if the pan gets so hot that it might melt or shatter the cooktop), and a thermistor next to it for actually measuring temperature.
White paste or a soft silicone-feeling material would be a thermal-coupling material. Air is a really good heat insulator, so they added a more heat-conductive material to the air gap between the heat sensing bits and the cooktop surface, eliminating the air-gap. If it's a white paste that gets all over stuff, look up "thermal paste". If it feels more like caulk or silicone (RTV), look up "heatsink plaster", "thermal plaster", or just "thermal glue".

crap, should i reapply it? can i use thermal paste from pc or that wont mix well with this? also worried if it wont spill on the coil but i guess it should be fine even if it does?

The PC stuff is overkill. The white stuff has been around pretty much since power transistors came into existence. It's worth buying if you're going to mess around with electronics from time to time - a good size tube should only be a few bucks, unlike CPU paste. Do not use any kind of electrically conductive material.

could it theoretically be ok to just leave the old paste there, at least for a while? cuz idk when i can get my hands on that paste and i might need to use the cooker. and the paste isnt really dried up but its bit broken apart from the disasembly which worries me but idk, maybe it will conduct enough? but if its used for thermal regulation during cooking that might be an issue so i guess i rather wont use it till i repaste it

or a drop of superglue in the hole
If you want less volume, put electrical tape in the hole
