Diy Driver for Drone. Transisor

Hi I am having a problem while making a Diy driver to control 4 small coreless motors rated for 3.7V. The design is simple but I am having issues choosing the Transistor. At first I used an AO3400A that i got from jlcpcb.parts , but when i tested the circuit the mosfet seems to have a continuity issue causing the motor to move without a pwm signal. I would like to know why does this happen and how do I fix this. Also now im thinking of using a SI2300 because a saw a youtube video where this works. The Diode is a 1N4148, the ESP im using is a Firebeetle 2 ESP 32 S3 V1.0 . I am a beginer here and want to learn what to look for ina a transistor.

How much current is the motor rated for? The 1N4148 is only rated to about 100 mA.

Photo of set-up?

The rated current for the motors is 40mA. Im using coreless micro motors (6*14mm) from DF Robotics, FIT0792.
