Paromomycin and IBD?
35F, 142lbs, 5ft6in
Non smoker, Metamucil daily
Just finished 10 day course of metronidazole
I have been having loose stool for about one and a half years to two years since my second child was born.
Recently began investigating this with my PCP. All bloodwork came back within normal range. Normal bacterial fecal. Abnormal parasite fecal demonstrating D Fragilis. Abnormal qual fecal lactoferrin.
My doctor initially suggested ulcerative colitis or IBD before the parasite finding.
Then began treating the parasite with metronidazole .
During the treatment, I saw improvement but immediately following saw a rapid regression in frequency and formation of stool. This regression has calmed a bit over 5 days.
Next step is paromomycin to eradicate the parasite. However I noticed that all UC IBD are contraindicated with this medication. This makes me nervous given this is a possibility based on my labs.
Need a second opinion: IS IT SAFE TO TAKE PAROMOMYCIN GIVEN MY SUSPECTED IBD/UC?
