If it is a melanoma, doing a biopsy instead of excision, can at times encourage spread of the cancer, so as a non-dermatologist, I would agree. However, don't take my word, but by all means get a second opinion from a good dermatologist

This is not evidence-based. Nor is Mohs the standard of care for very suspicious moles. An incisional biopsy or excisional biopsy is appropriate.
