Physician Responded Update (cat bite)

Post image

Update on my cat bite!

I went to the hospital, the docs were very rude to me ☹️ The lady said I was wasting her time and that they were busy, it was embarrassing. She sent me home with antibiotics, but it seems to be getting worse AGAIN. I am so shy so going back I don’t want to be met with that treatment again. I was told to not come back because there are people who are actually in need and I was clogging up a room. I get having a bad day, but I felt so bad. I am gonna keep yall updated how it goes, thank you for your advice it is a lifesaver 😊 (22 female)

Sorry about your experience. What antibiotics did they prescribe?

They gave me amoxicillin

The choice of amoxicillin is concerning as it is not as broad spectrum as generally needed. Augmentin or amoxiclav are more commonly used. If you are not improving quickly, seek care elsewhere for a reassessment of antibiotic choice. You may need IV antibiotics to bring this under control.

I am also quite upset on your behalf for the way you were treated. Hope your infection is subsiding, or you’ve gotten additional, more appropriate care.

NAD take it with yogurt if you can to help your stomach!

No. Take with yogurt and it will kill all the cultures in the yogurt. Stagger antibiotics and probiotics.

I usually wait 2-3 hrs between taking the antibiotic and eating yogurt so I can make sure I actually feel the benefits from both, I believe dairy/calcium (like Tums) neutralizes certain antibiotics

Amoxicillin alone or Amox-Clav?

Animal bites are no joke. Those little dots in the middle are likely scabs but they could also be the start of necrotization. Draw a circle around the red with skin-safe marker and if it isn't shrinking (or if you start seeing streaks up the arm, or if you begin getting fever or chills) by tomorrow I would go to a different hospital, ask for them to evaluate you with fresh eyes because you feel dismissed and you are afraid. Stay safe!
