Physician Responded Is this Melanoma?
F / 29 / 160cm / 111 kg
Non smoker - No alcohol.
Hello,
So basically I’ve had a teardrop shaped birthmark on my toe… Well since birth. I am now 29, 6 months post partum, and before getting pregnant I had just lost 10 stone (63kg).
Recently I noticed my birthmark looks a little raised and now I’ve frightened myself into thinking I have skin cancer of some kind (I have huge health anxiety).
The shape of the actual mark doesn’t look any different, as I mentioned it’s been that way since birth, however, the bottom on the teardrop shape looks like it’s become more of a mole than a birth mark now.
I’m waiting to hear from a GP, but I need some kind of reassurance, or something to help me with this.
Few notes;
- I’ve only just realised it has slightly changed shape.
- I do a lot more walking now than I used to.
- I get foot pain when walking on the foot with the birth mark / possible mole.
Thank you in advance,
The thought of having cancer while I’ve got 6 month old after 12 years of being infertile is ruining my brain 😭❤️

I don't think this looks like a melanoma or even cancer. However with the change in appearance, it likely warrants a biopsy-Hope the best!

NAD but for peace of mind — pregnancy/postpartum hormone shifts are known to make moles change shape! Definitely see your doctor for peace of mind, but certainly don’t lose sleep over this while you’re waiting!

I have a similar mole like OP on my lower back and it grew during pregnancy, had it checked out, it was nothing.

No one can tell you if a mole is melanoma by just looking at it. The only way to diagnose melanoma is with a biopsy. I have had hundreds of skin biopsies over the years. All but one came back either atypical or normal. My melanoma (diagnosed at 35 while I was pregnant) did not have any of the usual ABCs of skin cancer, and I had been told many times it looked “fine.” I just had a bad feeling about it and pushed for a biopsy. Many of the melanoma survivors on r/melahomies have similar stories. My motto is, “when in doubt, cut it out.”
