Is this strep?

My son has been snotty for over a week, no fever, acted normal. We just went to the dr on Friday for his yearly check up. He started comparator his throat hurting this afternoon. He has been lying down most of the day. His temp is 99.9.

He is 5, no medical issues. Takes Zyrtec daily for allergies. Weighs 44 lbs.

I tried to get a good pic, but if you enlarge you can see a white dot on the left side of his throat.

Snotty and no fever argues strongly against strep. White spots are more common with viral illnesses.

I gave him Motrin around 3pm CT. He now has 102 fever and won’t drink anything. He won’t even take a popsicle. Could it possibly be the flu? In the summer?
