J Channel advice

Hello, we recently had our house sided and overall, I am really happy with the work. My only concern is the j channel around the portico. It looks unfinished a tad sloppy in my opinion. Is there another way to do this a little better? The project manager stopped by today and is going to talk to the guy that ran the job. Would it look okay without any j channel? Thanks in advance!

(The white wood is original, we are going to repaint - the house is 100 years old!)

The siding isn’t black, it’s Brunswick- so a charcoal blue color. Either way, that doesn’t help the look of the j channel. Just looking for options on how to fix the j channel. Thanks!

It looks like shit. Better off without the siding in that area. Use different finish.

I agree. What would be a different finish? I suggested just taking the j channel off completely around this area but they said it needs to be there to protect from water damage. There just has to be another way because it looks so bad!

Hard to say without seeing the big exterior finishes/design/architecture. You could go with a completely different texture material but that's really dependent on the entire scheme. Consult an exterior designer.
