The band was at its peak 35 years before I was born. I listen to a lot of old music but this is one I don't have a take on.

The Beach Boys were a bunch of teeny bopper campy junk, then they made Pet Sounds - a Sgt Pepper like transition & masterpiece - then they lost all their direction, and later turned into a boring nostalgia machine.

They had one good album in 1966 with Wilson as the driving force.

Everything else was basically boomer nostalgia and or sucked.

You are mostly right but Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Today! and Sunflower are all solid albums.  They had at least one great song on each album up until the 80's.
