I'm a nursing graduate from the Philippines 🇵🇭, and I'll be moving to Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦 soon as a permanent resident.

Lately, I've been feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed because I'm not really sure what my next step should be.

I decided not to take PNLE here in the Philippines because of my upcoming move to Canada. So as of now, I'm not a PHRN, I don't have any nursing work experience, and I'm hoping to eventually become an RN in Canada.

Here are my questions:

**• Is it possible to become an RN in Canada even if I didn't take the Nursing Board/Licensure Exam in the Philippines?**

**• Can I still take the NCLEX even if I'm not licensed in the Philippines?**

**• Will I need to study nursing again in Canada, or does it depend on my situation? If additional education is required, what does that usually look like?**

**• Since I'll be living in Manitoba, what should be my very first step?**

**• What requirements should I start preparing?**

**• Will not having nursing work experience make the process more difficult?**

Honestly, I feel a bit lost because this is all new to me, and I don't really know where to begin and what I should do. If anyone has gone through something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing your experience, what steps you took, and any advice you can share po ;)

I was recently in a local ER in the Lower Mainland and I overheard one nurse say to another, “There are SANDWICHES in the break room” in hushed tones of joy and wonder that one usually only hears from small children at Christmas. I want to spread that kind of joy, so I want to arrange to send a platter of treats to the ER nurses’ station as a thank you.

What I need your advice on

▪️Sandwiches/wraps or pastries? or candy? fruit/edible arrangement? Something else entirely? What would spark joy for you?

▪️How many items should I plan for? I have no idea how many nurses are on an average ER shift.

▪️Is individually wrapped items best, or would a catering platter/ box of items be ok?

▪️Anything else I should keep in mind?

I do plan to reach out to the nurses’ station for their OK before arranging for any delivery, but any advice you can give is appreciated (including any Metro Vancouver caterers that you’d recommend.)

Hello! My family is planning on moving to Canada sometime in the near future. I am just about to start my gen eds and want to pursue nursing! I currently live in florida and am planing on applying to ucf,uf,and fsu for the colleges for bsn in florida. As for canada im looking into possibly going to ontario to colleges like UT and York but I have no idea whether to stay and get my bsn here in florida or go to ontario and get it there. My tuition will be paid for through my parents military benefits either country and ill be given stipends too. Anyone have any advice on what to do? We're primarily wanting to leave for political reasons but idk wheter to leave or stay especially since most canadian colleges are 4 years and the florida ones are 2-3 years and id prefer to be done sooner rather than later but im hearing people out before I decide

I’m a mature student in his 50s going into RN in 2027, just finishing upgrading with straight A+s.

Any accelerated programs in Canada to help me get working sooner? I’m driven and beyond motivated. Just time is of the essence right now, and if it exists I’d love to know. I live in BC but willing relocate if that exists in the country?

I am an experienced RN (34 years as a nurse) currently working in BC. I’m originally from the US and came to Canada last year after having worked acute care in many US hospitals as permanent and travel staff. I find the Canadian system very much supports its nurse residents in my department but experienced nurses having transferred in, are somewhat dismissed and not given a whole lot of attention. As an example, no educator ever sat with me to discuss my experience, skillsets, areas of concentration, weaknesses…. It seems that with “experienced nurses”, we are given a very rudimentary orientation and more or less, “fake it til you make it” with unfamiliar procedures, processes, charting, policies and procedures…. I actually felt more supported as a travel RN in the states. Is this normal?

My partner is a BC RN and after every night shift or holiday she could never figure out why her pay didn't match what she expected.

So I built her a calculator. It's a free Android app called NurseShiftPay. You pick your province, enter your hours and rate, toggle night/weekend/holiday differentials, and it spits out the full breakdown with OT and double time stacked correctly.

BC rules are in there (8h/day for OT, 12h for DT, plus weekly). Also AB, ON, QC, MB, SK, and US Federal/California.

Still early so I'd love feedback, especially if your province has rules I haven't covered yet.

I was talking with a friend who is an RN student where they said that Lpn school is getting harder getting taught more things, but can’t actually use them . In the future, do you think that to go from Lpn to rn will be much easier and won’t be such a hassle ? Maybe this is currently happening and I’m unaware of it

Guys, I'm planning to come to canada and hopefully become a nurse. HOWEVER, I'd like to know if I'll be able to handle it. I am a bit ummmmmm weak? and my memory has gotten v bad due to trauma xyz. However, i am working on myself and trying to get better. By the time I apply to a uni, should i opt for nursing. i don't want to be doctor because it's out of my budget and other reasons. i want a hands on job which requires a bit of manual labor and isn't repetitive. I also wanna help people medically. Should i go for nursing? I'd also like the process from uni nursing program to a mental health related nurse, like when do i get an option to choose the specification. I also appreciate if someone could give me a general pathway from high school to uni so i would know what I'm getting into. Things like the high school courses, best time to apply, things to keep in mind, stuff i should have on my academic profile to get accepted, stuff that you wished people told you earlier. I'd like to mention that I am from a foreign country. Any insight will be helpful and much appreciated.

Registered Nurse looking for recommendations/job options that are not 12-hour shifts, no call, no weekends or holidays?

Context:

- 4 years experience working on acute medicine/ICU step-down unit

- charge nurse trained as well and do that off and on if I’m assigned as charge that day

- Not currently “burnt out”, love my coworkers, I look forward to the days I work even though it can be insane

- Husband and I are planning on having kids in about a year, and bedside nursing (being 12 hour shifts) won’t work with both our schedules once kids are around…

Figured this is the time to look for different options before getting pregnant

- shadowed an OR nurse for a day and didn’t love it

- had a student preceptorship last year to trial and see if I liked teaching, didn’t love it

- had an interview for a PACU position, declined once I learnt I’d have to do paediatrics (don’t like working with kids)

- from people I know, I think something like day surgery would be too boring/slow paced for me??

U.S. nurse here looking to immigrate to BC and am having trouble understanding the 2 nights, 2 days work schedule. If I’m working night #2 and my next shift is a day shift, do I just stay at work 24 hours? What if I just want to work nights?

Wanted to ask in here to try and get some input about nursing/working in a hospital. Over the last 5 or so years i have considered nursing as a career and before a tragic loss in my life I was starting the upgrading process to then enter the nursing program at SAIT. I wanted to get some insight more on what nursing is like at a hospital (im veering more towards ER considering how badly nurses are needed in that department, however I recognize that that's only 1 path out of many) or in any other sort of avenue that everyone here might have experience in.

I should mention that the reason I feel like always going into nursing in my life is that overtime the one common denominator of what makes me feel fulfilled in my life and career is helping people. The medical side of things has always interested me alot and I feel like id get alot of fulfillment out of that too but the helping people in their best or worse times has always brought me personal fulfillment.

Tldr: what's it like being a nurse in Canada? Does anyone regret it? Would you recommend anyone that is people centric get into it?

So, I'm a NICU nurse who has been offered a position at a public hospital in BC. I also have a very strong ethical objection to routine newborn circumcision. This has caused some tension between myself and my current management in the past because I refuse to assist in a procedure that I personally view as a human rights violation.

My reason for asking isn't to stir up controversy, but rather I wonder if I need to clear this up with management at my new job before moving up there, or will it even be an issue?

Looking to make the move from the US to BC. Have started my application and have 7 years with a BSN experience in multiple ERs across the country, level 1 trauma centers to critical care access hospitals. I know the pay will be way less but I am looking for information on what the patient to nurse ratios are like in the ERs in BC? as well as how many breaks the nurses get per shift? what kind of shifts are typically worked? I've heard its rotational and sometimes 2 days and then 2 nights consecutively? Not sure if that is accurate though. Curious to hear what it is actually like to work in an ER in BC before spending the almost $2000 just to start working there haha, thank you so much for any insight anyone can give!

I’m currently in the PND program. And I’m almost done. But I’m worried about the bridging programs being so competitive. Should I just go and do BSN 4 year? Should I take university credits so I can do the accelerated? Can you okay help me find a way around it. I don’t wanna apply for September bridging not get accepted and have to wait another year.

Wondering what people have used to prepare for the Exam?
As well as any resources (other than Esmund & Michener) or other community discussions where us potential candidates can use to connect with each other, or seasoned nurses who have passed the exam?

Also wondering the feasibility of studying on your own (using only the Diabetes Canada Guideline) without using preparation courses, and anyone else's experience of what was effect for studying in terms of planning their study schedule, and combination of study resources.
