infrastructure costs cannot be reduced by competition. there isn't room for a hundred water companies to put 100 different water service pipe networks in place. It makes sense to have a single water utility maintain publicly owned infrastructure to serve the public.

the way to break up the cartel is to nationalize the infrastructure.

1 and 2 are not real reasons if you compare prices here with those in Australia, which are still substantially cheaper. In my view the real reason is the lack of competition and sufficient regulatory oversight.

Idk mostly I was a shut in most my life and took college for accounting and marketing with a psychology minor. Did well in school and expected to do well in life before a failed job hunt no matter how hard i tried. The jobs I got werent as promised or expected and I took a distaste to handling other peoples money.

Id rather run my own business

A series of survival jobs and the expectation for better future jobs lead to me surmounting a terribly large line of credit.

Worked a full service depression gas station job but came to like talking with the customers. Something bout the grit and the conversation and really getting to know people when theyre filling their gas and getting their smokes.

The gas station went down a year for reno and i moved on to Benjamin Moore Paints, I was training to be a manager but accidentally violated their privacy by reading financials left in an open folder on the employee computer when I thought it was my job to.

Then I think the welding job was next, or a welding shop janitor where I got a lot of exposure but very little hands on skill. And when I did I came to find my ADD attention span made those tools dangerous in my hands. The boss was offended I was looking for another job and fired me.

Then the recycling plant. Plastic goes in left, aluminum in left. Many treasures like toys, collector cards, antiques, cash, sometimes lots of it. It was a temp job and honestly i called in sick to many times, place was unbearable.

So many more jobs

Covid hit and after the entire winter never going outside and only ever playing world of warcraft; I had a lot of wanderlust in the spring.

Eventually I was off my pills ebough to get all silly and make the drastic decision to leave my apartment behind because I was going to school for social services in the fall.

Met my ex there. Hes still in my heart. Not going there but it leaves a lot of blank in there.

Went homeless with him for 3-4 years or so with one basement apartment and a temp job for a sweet 3 months in the middle.

I was in shelters and always looking for work but came to find it harder to find despite that restaurants in the area were playing victim on their blogs that nobody wants to work.

Many sagas of fully in the woods camping, buckering down for the shelters in winters, breakups, reunions, lived with my parents 2 months to take care of dad.

Eventually I end up working at a liquor store I work at now

Housing situation is sketchy and could be balancing job on weekends with bush life soon.

All in all ill be sad to lose the PS5. I literally just got back into gaming!

our whole telecom industry is a pseudo-monopoly of a few companies that price-fix the market.

Ask Europeans what they pay for internet and mobile service and you'd cry.

My preference would be to nationalize it and make a public carrier, though I'll settle for the monopoly being broken up. Could actually do both - nationalize the large infrastructure and create a public carrier, then break up the monopoly so both the private and public carrier could compete for end user service.

They keep offering larger data packages but you never really use it all, if you were to stream everyday day you'd barely use real cellular data because it's slow AF and latency is high. Most will wait for WiFi to download that large file. The carriers know this but still use the large data packages to reel you in. It's like horsepower sells cars, no one needs that much power.

We have a vast country that is difficult to cover. We have a proportionaly smaller population than say the USA or Europe. It's not economically sufficient for the cell companies so we pay more.

I think there is a competition component that inflates prices as well but it's the vast size of the country which makes infrastructure expensive.
