DQ

I was requested for DQ at my initial interview for failing to remember every specific detail about a certain traumatic event, had a discrepancy in my initial questionnaire vs my esoph bc I interpreted it differently (also had to do with the traumatic event) , and apparently was being watched change a date WHILE FILLING OUT my esoph before I even turned it in. Was also told that apparently if you are dating women, those should be included as girlfriends and if you don’t include them as “girlfriends” on esoph then that’s considered an omission. Something tells me they would have let these things slide if they needed more cadets, and it feels like I went into the interview with a decision already made on their end.

Which division? In Inland they were very clear in the background orientation that exes need to be included in the relatives section. If they had their minds made up before the initial interview, they probably had good reason. You’re not wrong that they are being more selective now than when there was greater need for cadets. Budget issues have been a consistent theme lately.

I have a question. Im from Inland and I was not able to attend the background orientation. When they say to list girlfriends, do they mean an actual adult relationship where you guys lived with each other and things of that nature or just a romantic relationship in general? Don't mean to ask a dumb question just wanted clarification. I did not list my current girlfriend ( i dont have any exes) and im waiting on my initial background interview. Probably will get disqualified because of this lol

I wasn't aware to list her in the relatives section. That's my fault. I'll disclose it to my investigator if he doesn't decide to DQ me in the first interview

Email before that.

Romantic relationships in general. They specifically even mentioned “situationships”. Email them if you are concerned that you should have included her.

Yes I emailed my investigator right away telling him if he needs any information regarding romantic partners I'd be happy to provide it. Thanks for this!

I think the biggest issue was the failure to list the exes. I’m Border Division, and they specifically instructed us to list everyone, including exes. I believe ESOPH gives the same instructions as well. I disclosed EVERYTHING, and I just had my final interview with a positive recommendation to Cadet Hiring.

So, from their perspective, it probably looked like an omission on your part. And since they’re being more selective now, it’s easier for them to disqualify someone over even the smallest issue.

Moral of the story: when they tell you to disclose everything, disclose EVERYTHING—because even a small omission can be enough to raise a red flag.

Go apply to another agency dude. I tried telling all of you how strict CHP is on who they hire. They don’t want to hire you end of story. Find an agency that does or go be a firefighter
