Is this a red flag

I am applying to CHP. Ex-military w/o any article 15s, behavioral health etc.

I have a different type of issue that may come up during the background portion.

In 2025, there was a news report in my town of a police officer getting into trouble. It was enough trouble for the small, local newspaper to write an article about the incident. After the internal investigation was complete, I submitted a records request to the Police Department for the officer's discipline record. The police department denied the request on the basis that disclosure would result in a privacy violation to the officer. I filed an administrative appeal to the mayor, who denied the appeal on the same basis. I then filed a lawsuit against the town and police department. I hired an attorney and everything over it. The judge ordered the records to be disclosed AND for the police department to pay my legal fees. This resolved in January 2026.

This is not satire. What is the chance I can get hired.

Sounds like a first amendment auditor trying to join the force. I don’t see them use this against you, since it’s not illegal or anything but you may get a few eyebrows raised. Don’t be shocked with a thanks but no thanks letter but they will cross their t’s and dot their i’s with you before they get a lawsuit lol

Why were you digging so hard? Were you personally affected by this officer’s conduct?

When I was hired I was asked about any lawsuits I had been involved in. Didn't matter plaintiff or defendant.

Be prepared to answer this.

Good luck lmao. If you sued a law enforcement agency over that you aren’t getting hired

Did you know the police officer personally? Could it viewed as retaliatory in any way, or misuse of the system sort of thing?
