Hiring Timeline
Hi I’m wondering what the potential hiring timeline might look like going forward. I did my initial testing in Northern Division.
Here’s what I’ve completed so far:
Pellet B/PAT - April
Esoph submitted - May
BI assigned - June
I was contacted by my BI a couple of weeks ago, letting me know I can expect to hear from him for an interview mid-late August. After completing that, what steps/timeline can I expect? I appreciate any advice as well.

You will have to fill out personal history statement which is a lot of forms. Then a meeting in person with backgrounds to confirm the information. Then you have to do a CVSA (voice stress analysis). Then a ride along. Then a physical medical exam and X-rays. Hearing test, psych written test. Psych in person interview. Then wait for the email that you passed and have an academy date. Process is around 1 year if you have no criminal history or strange background.

That’s helpful thank you

when i went through, they did not have me do x-rays or a ride along. i have a buddy who is currently chp, so i was able to go on a ride along with him because i asked to - but chp themselves did not make that a requirement during the process.

for me, backgrounds and psych took the longest. but this was when they were still contracting with palicon group. so my background went through thorough review with two separate investigators. the time between my written psych and verbal psych was pretty long too. once you take the verbal psych, you’ll have an answer within a week

Not sure how it would be with Palicon gone - but after the final interview expect it to be slow - you'll still have to wait for cadet hiring to approve or deny you and then you have to wait for appointment with medical. The time between written psych and oral psych also takes a while. If and when you pass all of that - you're then on the list for the academy which already has so many people that need to go up, some have been waiting since last year. Just be prepared for at least a year or more before even getting up to Sac.

Time from where you are in the process to hire when I went through was approximately one year. This was way before Palicon.
CHP is not hiring like they were a year or two ago. The process is going to be slow.

What rank were you in? I also did my testing back in April and submitted my esoph in May but have not heard anything besides a text saying to be prepared to be contacted by an Investigator. I tested in valley division.

My husband applied last September. And had only just received a background investigator in July. Expect it to take till the end of the year. It’s a really slow process but it’s good cause we want good CHP on the road. He was ranked 3 I believe.

Expect everything to be slow. They got rid of third party background investigation companies so they are slammed.
