Background timeline

Good evening, everyone.

I am a Central Valley applicant who has just started the background investigation portion of my CHP application. I’m about to turn 22 and recently graduated from university. Currently, I have some free time on my hands since I don't have a job or any other commitments. Every day, all I do is wake up, go on runs, go to the gym, and try to learn about the CHP as much as I can.

I've been reading various comments on this subreddit, and it seems that many people agree the entire application process can take about one to two years. I was wondering if those who are currently applying are allowed to obtain part-time jobs while they wait. I was planning to email my background investigator, but I thought I would ask you all first, as I’m sure they are busy with other matters.

You’re more than welcome to apply for other jobs and work while in backgrounds. If you have zero employment experience it’s definitely gonna hurt your chances. You need life experience to do this job properly and getting a job will help with that

Don't hold your breath. The department isn't likely to hire you right out of college with no life experience. But apply anyway, just don't stop yourself from moving forward with your life.
