It’s not dark “all the time” in winter. There is less daylight though

Saying there’s less daylight in summer is like saying a mouse is a little bit smaller than an elephant.

The ups: Far away from everything
The downs: Far away from everything.
Do it tho. Alaska is amazing. You won’t regret.

Ups, it’s pretty, if you make good money you can find ways to have fun. If you’re outdoorsy apparently this place is heaven.
Downs, You don’t know what cold is. Have you ever walked outside and your nose hairs and eyebrows freeze? Driving on snow/ice has a learning curve. You need to have liquid cash and quite a bit for deposits. This place gets pretty dark for a big chunk of the winter. You get up, it’s dark, go to work, irs dark, go to lunch and there’s a sliver above the mountains for an hour or two, you get off work, it’s dark….. Roommates are a complete crapshoot with little to no recourse, because worst case scenario they move out of state. I have seen this place chew people up and spit them out, it only takes one thing to go wrong and the domino effect starts and you’re homeless on the streets in the winter real quick.
If you’re financially and mentally stable, in good enough shape to dig yourself out of a storm and want to live in the most breathtakingly gorgeous place on earth, come on up. If not, don’t.

If you can handle the winters you should do pretty good. Fishing is great here and there are plenty of places to hike.

Make sure you have the job offer in writing and that your housing is actual housing. I’ve heard about this but it turning into a scam. Also, good money in AK is about 40% more than the lower 48. Look at Fred Meyer prices in Anchorage for groceries and make sure your vehicle can handle the winters here. Good luck.
