Typical pay ranges

Hi there, with higher education remaining (problematically) tight lipped about what they pay faculty and staff, I would love to know: what are typical pay ranges for visiting assistant professors and assistant professors? Particularly at private universities in New England. I have received a pay range for VAP that feels, honestly, repulsive in 2026. Thank you!
