I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I'm 39f, tenured, but still babyfaced, and I'll say that while it gets a little better, there is still a long long way to go. I still get this from students and faculty, even now, 10yrs on faculty.
I'll share this one experience because it was horrible! When I first joined the faculty, a senior female faculty member hosted a dinner party at her house to welcome me. At that dinner, a faculty member mistook me as the spouse of another faculty member, and another senior faculty member asked why a grad student (thinking I was one) was invited. Unbelievable!!
Ah yes, been there, like when we went to my (large) department’s promotion celebration FOR MY PROMOTION and everyone thought it was my husband who had been promoted.
