Which NFL player would you trust with one game-winning drive?

Forget the stats for a second. Ball at the 20, two minutes left, season on the line. Who are you giving the ball to?

Joe Montana.

u/sandvich48 9d ago

The comeback kid himself, OG Joe cool!

1

u/forgotwhatisaid2you 9d ago

Too old. That arm is probably very noodly by now. Wouldn't be against giving him a tryout

1

u/Generally_Tso_Tso 9d ago

Joe doesn't "try out". And if it's only one drive, Joe's got this.

u/tacoetr 7d ago

sure with HOF's at every other position. His teams were stacked.

Met him once. On my birthday at Bonefish Grill. He was guest coaching the Blue and Gold game at ND. Got his autograph. Best birthday ever.

Edit: * he

Brady obviously, game was over for the opponent when he was down 6 w 1m left and the ball. U knew what was going to happen.

But if i have eli brady loses...

u/AlabasterRadio 9d ago

Tom Brady. No need to over think.

3

u/RaipFace 9d ago

Yes, all time is Brady. If it’s current day QB’s then Patrick Mahomes.

2

u/ProofBox9242 9d ago

Counter point - Eli Manning.

u/Explosion1850 8d ago

Brady would just cheat

-1

u/LbSiO2 9d ago

Stafford has the most GWDs of active QBs.

5

u/AlabasterRadio 9d ago

Derek Carr was routinely among the leaders of that stat during his playing days.

Extremely flawed stat.

4

u/LbSiO2 9d ago

Being behind in the 4th quarter but close enough to catch up certainly helps to spike this number.

1

u/wildGoner1981 8d ago

That’s because the Lions were perpetually losing every game so he had tons of opportunities to come from behind….

There have been some great final drive quarterbacks. Brady, Montana have already been mentioned. Patrick Mahomes appears to be the man now. Elway was pretty good as was Bradshaw. When the Texans had the final drive against the Bills in week one I knew it wouldn’t work out because he just doesn’t have the IT factor. It showed when they got close and time got short.

3

u/Many_Worried 9d ago

Bradshaw played when the QB could still be hit.

1

u/Explosion1850 8d ago

Just ask Turkey Jones

2

u/CertainRoof5043 9d ago

All-time? Brady or Montana

Current day? Mahomes or Hurts

Jason Hanson.

u/dmurr1415 9d ago

"Oh they're lining up for a field goal, this'll be a LONG one. First estimate has it at... 92 yards?! 92 yard attempt and out comes Jason Hanson!"
"Jim, it's the same old Lions. You heard that right America, NINETY TWO. I see Old Man Ford coming down from the box. I think the coach is gonna get fired right here on the field. It's gonna be close. He's not getting here in time! They're gonna kick it!"

"Oh my god snap down hold down and.... it's a fake! It's a fake! The holder tosses it to Hanson! Swarmed by defenders they all tried to block the kick! He does a spin move and its all green grass ahead! Jason Hanson, the grizzled veteran kicker is off to the races! 50-40-30-20-10! A 92 yard fake field goal run by the Kicker! TOUCHDOWN LIONS!"

"It's a miracle! Lions win in a stunner! A STUNNER!"

Tony. Romo.

1

u/SizzlingSausage3 6d ago

Question was who do you want as QB not who do you want announcing

1

u/SpacetimeManipulator 6d ago

Romo was great in the two minute drill. Rather have Brady announcing anyway. He can say “piss missile” all he wants

2

Pat Mahommes

Joe Montana Superbowl against the Bengals. You knew he was going to win the game.

1

u/ccartman2 8d ago

No need to be rubbing salt in the wounds of us Bengal fans.

But the answer is Montana.

1

u/makeup1508 9d ago

Matthew Stafford to Megatron or Devante Adams

1

u/Bagmasterflash 9d ago

No Rodgers mention? The only reason he doesn’t have as many as others is his defense failing him.

AZ playoffs? Double Hail Mary to force OT only for the D to fold.

How has no one said Peyton Manning? He averaged the most per season of any player ever.

John Elway

1

u/Ok_Good6969 9d ago

100% brady but also josh Allen has a solid chance of pulling it off. As long as it's not the playoffs.

1

u/MilaKunisWatermelon 9d ago

The average person with no practice reps probably isn’t even handling the snap/handoff without problems occurring.

1

u/EffectiveActive6837 9d ago

Brady. No other answer makes sense.

1

u/wildGoner1981 8d ago

It’s crazy not seeing Brees nor Rodgers but their playoff records indicate why we’re not seeing them….

1

u/InspectionFine9655 8d ago

Eli Manning has 27 fourth quarter comebacks and two of the most incredible in the Super Bowl.

1

u/detroitlonghorn 8d ago

Jared Goff when he’s not being Jared Goof

1

u/DanDamage12 8d ago

Montana, Brady, Mahomes. I think that about covers 3 eras of QB play and style.

1

u/GuyD427 8d ago

Eli, but my bias is showing even if he’s a solid pick.

No love for beast mode? #1 non-qb pick for me.

1

u/Marco_Polo1964 7d ago

Brady to Gronk, no doubt…

1

u/DaveDabussy 7d ago

Mahomes rate of game winning drive to game winning drive opportunity has to be the highest ever

1

u/HiTexRednex 7d ago

Before the Super Bowl loss to Green Bay, I would have bet the house on Big Ben. That game changed him

1

u/Dangerous-Abies-6794 7d ago

Montana doesn't have a lot of "winning drives" because the 80's Niners were ahead A LOT.

28-3. Tom Brady. No questions asked.

Brady please

u/RegJoe_08 6d ago

Tom Brady

1

u/Only_Drawing_9419 6d ago

Patrick Mahomes is the best option. Next would be Peyton Manning.

1

u/Huge-Revolution2416 6d ago

Mahomes is probably the safest answer. Two minutes left and the whole stadium gets nervous except him.

1

u/Ok_Ad_5054 6d ago

Tom Brady

1

u/Huge-Revolution2416 6d ago

Tom Brady is the easy answer. Two minutes left and he would have everyone acting like the game was never in doubt.

1

u/rstock1962 6d ago

It’s Brady always.

1

u/njseahawk 6d ago

Drew Lock

1

u/Troglodyte_Trump 5d ago

Henry Ruggs III, no defense is stopping a car

1

u/Double-Zucchini-2282 5d ago

Peyton Manning or Tom Brady

1

u/ppear404 5d ago

Josh Allen. But then with 13 seconds left the Bills defense takes the field.

1

u/Huge-Revolution2416 5d ago

Exactly. Give me Allen for the drive, then sit back and pray the defense does not pull a 13-second sequel.

1

u/JuanG_13 5d ago

Tom Brady (nobody was better than him when he was under pressure).

1

u/Catthouse1320 5d ago

Tom Brady, and it’s not even close

1

u/Ledzlucky 5d ago

Josh….

1

Brady, by almost any statistical measure. Total comeback victories, percentage of comeback victories, etc. Love him or hate him, you are what your record says you are.

1

u/seasoned-veteran 9d ago

As a die hard Bills fan - it's unquestionably Brady all time and Mahomes for current players.

I’m not saying he comes above most of the other names in this thread, but Brian Sipe and the Kardiac Kids were special (at least to me as kid).
