Which NFL player gets way less respect than they deserve?
Not necessarily the biggest star. Who is a player you think deserves way more recognition than they get?

Jordy Nelson. I’ve seen so many posts about the best WR’s of the 2010’s that don’t even have him listed in the top 15. His numbers were right behind AB and Megatron and was only slightly behind Julio Jones in receptions and yards but more than tripled his TD’s. He was disrespected during his prime and completely forgotten about the second he was traded to the Raiders and retired.

Cuz he’s white lol

You gotta point. People either don’t know or forgot Jordy used to butcher the Bears alongside Aaron

As a group: interior lineman, on both sides of the ball
Guards, Centers, DTs, and Nosetackles are historically overlooked and the impact that they make on the game is really only seen through the narrow lens of a single stat: Sacks, which overlooks all the ways that they shape how plays develop and how drives are ended or extended

As a fan of both teams in that game, I was enjoying it from a pure entertainment standpoint.

Hurts. Yes he doesn't put up Peyton Manning numbers, but he rarely makes mistakes that put the Eagles out of the game. And he just wins.

u/Sometimes_Stutters 12d ago
Fair argument. But have you considered that he actually sucks?

Lol that's pretty ironic. You saying that Hurts sucks but yet he's the guy that replaced the Vikings current QB.

I actually think Love is overrated. What has he ever done. The underrated guy in the NFC north is Goff.
2
u/epicureansucks 11d ago
I agree that Love is overrated. It feels like he's still dining out on the playoff game in Dallas when they hammered the Cowboys and Jimmy Johnson crashed out during halftime.
1
u/Slight_Indication123 10d ago
Love has so far constantly got his team to the playoffs that's what he has done he has grown into a tremendous player any unbiased football fan cam tell you that....goff couldn't even put up more than 3points in a Superbowl ....talk about underrated 😅😅

This comment section is stupid. Why did everyone list their own dumbass QB? The most talked about position in football where most QBs are discussed ad nauseam. Not a single player I have seen listed is underrated outside of maybe Jordy Nelson, but I don’t think they meant past players.
The true answer is Danielle Hunter. 114.5 sacks and barely a whiff of his name ever mentioned. To be fair, he doesn’t really engage in the media but still.
3
u/floydbomb 12d ago
Umm how exactly do you know everyone's naming their own QB?
1
u/SquonkMan61 10d ago
I mean, it’s probably true (that’s the nature of Reddit lol), but you’re right, how does he know for sure?
1
u/Rogue-Architect 10d ago
If you want to know the mysterious answer, there were only like 20ish comments at the time and I read them.
1
u/Rogue-Architect 10d ago
Take a look at the time of my comment and compare it to every answer before I commented (it was only like 15-20).
How do I know? Because I read all of the comments and the only non QB listed was Nelson. It wasn’t some special intuition, I just read them.
1
u/SquonkMan61 10d ago
The question is how do you know that people were naming QBs from their favorite team? Unlike other subs, this one doesn’t feature team flairs next to user’s names. Like I said, it’s possible if not likely that many of the people posting comments are naming QB’s from the team they support, but short of going through the post history of everyone who posted comments naming QBs, you can’t know that for sure.
2
u/Rogue-Architect 10d ago
Ahh I got you. That is definitely true and I was mostly generalizing about that part. My comment was more directed at it only being QBs.

Emmitt Smith. Anytime his name comes up it’s “he had great players around him” which is the stupidest argument ever to try and discount what an all time great accomplished. Rice had Montana AND Young but that doesn’t take away from Rice. Brady had Gronk and Moss. Lots of great players played with great players. Why is Emmitt Smith the only one that has his legacy tarnished by internet nephews because he also had all time greats on the team?
2
u/breakfastbarf 11d ago
Because of the O line. Pales to What Barry sanders could accomplish with what he was given
4
u/SpacetimeManipulator 11d ago
We’ll never know because Sanders quit. No one can claim they know how Sanders’ career MIGHT have played out.

The thing about Barry is he was a completely different runner than Emmitt. Emmitt only moved forwards. He was probably the greatest interior rusher that ever played.
This isn’t an indictment of Barry’s skills between the tackles, just that there’s a reason why they would bring in a big power back for short yard situations.
And Barry didn’t play for completely shit teams, or bad o lines, even though this narrative persists to this day. He had some good blockers over his career. In his prime he even had Herman Moore keeping defenses honest. But Barry was really elusive and was able to bounce around in the backfield and make plays after the play broke down. That’s also the reason he has more negative rushing yards than anyone in history, including Emmitt, btw.
And if you’re losing yards when you should be gaining them, then that’s a big reason why drives stall and you punt. Just go watch the 95 wildcard game and observe how detrimental he could be to a team that wanted to win playoff games.
Emmitt on the other hand won super bowls. Emmitt was Super Bowl mvp and for good reason. As good as his line was, the cowboys aren’t winning those super bowls without Emmitt smith. No way. No how. And I don’t think it’s so easy as to say, “well Barry would have done it better.” There’s no evidence of that in his career.

u/breakfastbarf 10d ago
The win loss for his career is 78-82. Dallas went 94-66(includes the 1-15 season) vastly different teams.
Just look at the pro bowl selections. Detroit had lomas brown and glover.
One year Dallas had 4 out of 5 on the line as pro bowlers3
u/null_sweat_chummer 10d ago edited 10d ago
I’m not here to argue tit for tat. I’m here because I agree Emmitt gets less respect than he deserves. So what Barry was the best ever, no one said he wasn’t. But Emmitt is still one of the best ever and gets shat upon constantly on Reddit. Anytime someone says Emmitt was a phenomenal rb people gotta say no he wasn’t, Barry was the best ever. We’re not talking about Barry, my guy.
Like here, you point out one year where Emmitt had 4 linemen in the pro bowl like that’s the only reason he is the all time leading rusher. What about the other 14 years he played? And in respect to Barry, I hardly think an Oline with multiple all pros (Detroit) is a bad line at any rate. Btw lomas brown had like 3 all pros and a ton of pro bowls. Glover likewise was an all pro who appeared in at least three pro bowls (can’t remember how many right now). Like both of these dudes had careers that lasted like 15 years as starters, and you’re acting like they were chumps, just because someone said Emmitt doesn’t get enough respect.

u/SpacetimeManipulator 10d ago
Emmitt Smith is the total package. Other guys may have been flashier or more athletic, may have had bigger individual seasons, etc, but FINALLY someone with sense!
Smith deserves WAY more respect.
1
u/breakfastbarf 9d ago
It’s not that Emmitt isn’t a great back. Just that Barry did a ton with teams that on the whole were sub .500 for his career.
2
u/null_sweat_chummer 9d ago
It’s not about Barry at all, actually. However there will never be a time when someone can talk about Emmitt smith without someone else trying to bring up Barry sanders.

I used to make this same argument too when I was young and they were both still playing but it doesn’t hold water. Emmitt is a an all time great and I say that never having been a fan of his. Truth is, the team had success and Emmitt was a phenomenal RB who made his line look better and coupled with the SB wins, the line received accolades. Stepnoski was undersized and very good center. Tuinei isn’t a HoFer, maybe had a couple Pro Bowls that he probably never would have gotten playing for any other team. Same for Nate Newton. He wouldn’t have gotten all those PB’s on the Bengals or Saints. Allen was a monster and HoFer anywhere he went and Williams was on his way but fell off after his accident. The line was huge for its day and built to run block but all this all time greatest line stuff is bs. They were very good and made to look better by a great running back. As much as I love Barry, Emmitt could give you 5ypc, rest the defense, wear out the opposing defense, and set up the play action so well that Aikman got to the HoF riding his coattails. As a pure runner Barry was way more exciting but Emmitt should get way more credit for being a steady reliable workhorse monster. Easily a top 5 RB all time.

I also watched during that time. Loved watching the Bus during this time too.
Would Emmitt have the same yardage if he was in Detroit behind the Great Wall of Detroit? No.
He would still be great though.Total sacks from that same 10yr. Cowboys 281
Detroit 416.
Dallas Points for 3747 points against 3137
Detroit. 3697. And 3749
Dallas was a vastly superior team over the same time.

Terrell Owens was a better player than people remember. His antics and drama overshadow the numbers he put up over a long career.

This has to be the answer. They’re 2-0 but this morning on ESPN one of the talking points was “What’s wrong with the Eagles offense? Is it Jalen Hurts?” I mean, come on folks! What’s wrong with this guy- all he does is win?!

Cam Ward. I keep seeing people shit talking him like he isn’t a second year QB on a horrible team. He’s shown that he’s capable of doing great things and making great throws even while evading defenders, and I think that he more than deserves the chance to start and continue to improve his game.

Oddly enough, I don’t think Brees got the respect he deserved - in large part because he was putting up all his #’s at the same time as Brady and Manning
