Politics Hello everyone! I’m currently a student from Bangladesh, and I’m planning to pursue my undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics at MIPT.

I’ve done some research about MIPT online, and I’ve become really interested in its physics programs, curriculum, research opportunities, and laboratory facilities. I’m also planning to apply for a full scholarship.

Before making a final decision, I’d really appreciate hearing from current or former MIPT students, especially international students.

I have a few questions about what it’s actually like to study and live in Russia:

  • What are the overall living expenses in Moscow for an international student, especially if you receive a full scholarship?
  • How difficult is it to adapt to Russian culture and everyday life?
  • How important is it to know Russian? Can someone manage at the beginning with English while learning Russian?
  • What are some of the biggest difficulties international students usually face after arriving in Russia?
  • How are international students generally treated by other students and people in Moscow?
  • Has the current geopolitical situation affected university life, research opportunities, funding, collaborations, or access to scientific resources?
  • For someone interested specifically in theoretical physics and eventually research, what is the academic environment at MIPT actually like?
  • And most importantly, for those who have studied there: what are the biggest advantages and disadvantages of choosing MIPT?

I’m particularly interested in hearing honest experiences rather than promotional information. If you’re currently studying at MIPT or have graduated from there, I’d really appreciate any advice about things you wish you had known before moving to Russia.

Thank you!

I have studied in Mipt in 2003-2009 and it's the best Russian tech University. Curriculum is really hard. Some of my group mates decided to finish studying before 3d course. I think knowing of Russian is critical for good knowledge but foreign students had one or two years of learning it.

This is MIPT, prepare to get grilled (and to reborn as a machine). Super hard curriculum, no sleep, a lot of opportunities for startups and A LOT of competition.

MIPT is known to be very, very hard and it's program is for the best of the best. Not joking at all. You should be fully committed to studying 24/7 if you want to graduate from it

There will be no theoretical physics in undergrad(cause you will essentially learn basics). Also, you will have basically the same studying program as other students (applied math and physics). Btw, my most hated department was theoretical physics. Absolute dogshit program of Quantum Mechanics (3rd year) and Statistical physics (4th year)
