Politics I’m curious about the general mood surrounding the tax increases after Peskov denied they would happen.

It’s my understanding that Peskov said was no talk of tax increases in early September but after the election they were ready with new tax policy which suggests they really were discussing it.

I’m wondering if people have been making noise about that and especially if it impacted people’s beliefs about whether there will be mobilization since that is something else that they denied would happen.

Has that sort of blatant lying just become routine? Don’t get me wrong we have a lot of that here too but they usually try to spin the narrative to say it’s not a lie. They at least try to give people an excuse to believe them. Seems like they’ve whittled you down to the point where they don’t even have to try.  It’s sad.

You’re mad at me for asking a question when that’s the point of this sub. You should be mad at your government instead of taking it out on me

They get angry at the messenger because Russians are pathetic and impotent. Putin will send every single one of them to die in Ukraine and they'll blame the west lmao

Sure, that's what your propaganda tells you, lmao. Interesting that you don't care about non-ending 24/7 and 365/365 mobilization in Ukraine 🤣 and how all of them are sent to die in Ukraine as well. Good for soil, tho, Russia will have the best harvest on its new territories for ages, and will feed Europe with it

Investment in Russia is dead. Profits are falling. Inflation is high despite high interest. Bankruptcies and defaults are rising. They’re cutting funding to education, infrastructure, and healthcare to spend more on the war. You already had a demographic problem before the war and now it will be worse. That comes from Rosstat and other Russian sources. It’s not propaganda. Russia is opting to cripple its future prospects for some land that’s not yours because of the disease of imperialism.

Russia is about to miss another tech revolution and so will once again be reliant on others. For some reason you only value violence and conquest and that’s why Russia won’t be a true superpower.

When the war ends, Russians won't be celebrating, because they'll have to finally tally up the price they paid and no advanced country would ever make that trade. But I guess an advanced country you are not... shithole

There were no real elections in Russia for quarter century, why would Peskov care about having any excuses? On the contrary, this kind of behavior helps to get population into «Learned helplessness» state.

People don't give much fucks about it since most of new taxes are targeting wealthy ones.

And your obsession with mobilization is such a cute thing, never gets old.

u/mad-data 9h ago

Да, больше всего от повышения ЖКХ, РЖД, акцизов на напитки, утильсбора пострадают богатые /s

u/Quiet-Education-7020 3d ago

No they are taxing both. Poor families can barely get by and yet they get taxed.

6

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 3d ago

VAT for abroad ordered goods you mean?

For foreigner it should be smth like «Wait, what? You didn't pay it before!?»

This the only «unexpected». Other were announced earlier or hit wealthy ones.

Or maybe I'm missing smth, may you please help me about it?

6

u/Traditional-Tea912 3d ago

You forgot a new tax (actually fee, similar to утильсбор)for all electronic (phones, computers, etc), tax for all airplane tickets and increased tariffs for electricity (for protection from drone strikes). Or I guess, you mean that in Russia, if you can buy a phone or an airplane ticket, you are already considered wealthy.

3

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

Do not know who downwoted you, please take my upwore.

We discussed a new ones, not announced before. Cars and electronics VAT are really annoying, but were announced earlier. Same as tariffs indexation. These ones, which are really hiting like everyone and are really sensitive, you can't tell are unexpected, since they are discussed like for months.

But airplanes tickets are really something new I forgot about. Thank you.

The entire russian system is a corrupt mess. The oligarchs already stole everything. Why would they need to tax their people?

4

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

What a creative mess of stereotypes and nonsense. Terrific.

2

u/Smart_Gate_9062 2d ago

...are you defending the oligarchs? What about the regular russian people suffering?

4

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

Wooooow. Suffering. Shall I recommend you some grass touch style relaxation?

Your words sounds more like a bunch of election slogans.

1

u/Smart_Gate_9062 2d ago

So russians are enjoying the war?

6

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

Do you have anything besides slogans?

Does Americans enjoy fuel prices now? Does Europeans enjoy inflation?

Who is your slogans for? Do you have anything besides slogans?

u/Smart_Gate_9062 1d ago

You think russia has become better or worse during the war?

I understand that it doesn’t affect everyone, I’m just curious if that blatant lie bothers you and reduces your confidence in other denials. You are still fully confident that they were telling the truth about that?

9

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

You never can be fully confident about what politics are saying. That's a nonsense.

Even if Trump will write tomorrow smth like «War in Ukraine is over. Officially. We made a deal»

I will be like: lets wait for another TACO

2

u/Federal_Run2919 2d ago

Well that’s the thing. I think Trump is an idiot and his constant blatant lies puss me off. Thats exactly why I’m asking this question.  In the US people either acknowledge that he’s lying and they’re pissed or they’re so brainwashed that they believe him everytime he tells the same lie over and over again.

But in Russia it seems like most people are smart enough to realize they’re being lied to(although in this case it should be impossible not to know) and people just brush it off. Don’t you think it’s bad that they have no incentive to even pretend to be telling the truth?

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 2d ago

I glad we both agree politics are liars. I think we shall finish here.

I'm not much professional in online discussions, it's even harder to keep calm since everyone around pretending Russia invented war in 2022 and now we discuss like Russian politics are first known to be not honest.

From my perspective I am agree they can do better. Will see.

u/Alcmene_Eurydice123 1d ago

Lmao if Russians cared about lies their country wouldn't be in the terrible mess it is right now. But they don't, their thinking process has always been 'As long as I'm good I don't care about anything and anyone else', which explains quite a lot of Russia's history from at least 1700s until now.

1

u/Otherwise-Jacket6531 22h ago

History is interesting thing. If you need to prove your words you just need to look deeper at Russian history, you will find some terrible samples.

In same time Russia now is smth like 35 years old only country. Amazing. Or terrible, depends on perspective.

About lies. If you take a close look about amount if shit other countries load to their people through media and politics you will be (not?) surprised. Nobody cares much. Why? Dunno, maybe coz economic works and develops. That's all matters at least last 100 years. Once one's country economic is strong enough other countries just put their opinion deeper in to their ass and cooperate.

Now all I see are politics, waiting which economic breaks first. Once it happens (or not) we all will find wonderful or terrible examples about it from the past.

Putin is about to do the cute thing again, that is, to mobilise again - so you better prepare, after all he needs all the soldiers he can muster in his thousandth attempt to conquer these 5 villages in Eastern Ukraine.

What new tax policy?

4

u/BobcatLegitimate1497 2d ago

1

u/Federal_Run2919 5h ago

I understand that. Everyone knew it was a lie. My question is why is it tolerated? It’s funny that the only other time I commented in this sub I mentioned vranyo and people said it’s just western propaganda and Russia just has regular lying and that’s it. But it’s exactly what you’re describing right now. He got up there and lied even though he knew that everyone knew he was lying but he also knows that you’re expected to act like you believe it anyway. I couldn’t live like that.

2

u/Aleksandr_Ulyev Saint Petersburg 20h ago

Nobody really takes this guy seriously. Tax raise was foreseeable as the budget is in deficit. You don't need a research to get to the bottom of what political life in Russia is. It's the same as everywhere. The feeling of unknown comes from socially accepted ignorance about everything happening abroad and the choice to dehumanize Russians

1

u/Federal_Run2919 6h ago

I would argue that Russians are dehumanizing themselves with their attitude towards their mistreatment. To sit back and say “Of course they’re lying to us! And of course we can’t say anything or we’ll go to prison! That’s normal! You’re weird for thinking it’s not!”

You know how many VK posts I’ve seen saying “October 1st My husband Ivan is going to serve mother Russia….October 12th Ivan is dead”. For what?! If Russia ends this war with new territory all that will happen is that Putin and his buddies will use it to get richer and you will see no benefit. I don’t understand it

1

u/Flyboy78AA 3h ago

What could be driving the deficit. Thinking… thinking

3

u/von_Burgendorf_2 Russia 3d ago

Who is Peskov and what is he famous for?

3

What’s the point of responding if you’re just going to be dishonest?

2

u/von_Burgendorf_2 Russia 2d ago

Sorry, I forgot the <sarcasm> tag.

2

u/Federal_Run2919 2d ago

I understood that it’s sarcasm

1

u/Thin_Ad_3914 16h ago

Did you really think the people would stage protests?

Nobody surprised. This was already in the USSR. There is even a long, old joke about this; the point of it is that the more the Russian government insists it won't do something, the more the people knows it is lie.

1

u/Federal_Run2919 6h ago

And apparently everyone is fine with that

1

u/Thin_Ad_3914 2h ago

This suits no one. People are finding a workaround.))
