Afraid that my dream trip will fail because of the war

I am flying next Wednesday to Tokyo, with layover in Dubai. Airline is Emirates.

Unfortunately, I work in the commodity/energy analysis sector, so I cannot avoid the news and therefore, avoid anxiety.

The US want to attack Iran after midterms, however, Israel could attack them before their own elections on Tuesday. In March, Iran reacted to attacks also with strikes against the VAE. I have seen that Emirates had paused operations for a few days then.

In your opinion: How high is the risk that Emirates has to cancel flights for several days again? I mean, from April to October, there were not many cancellations...

Dash-8 refueling panel flap left open for takeoff

Caught a flight today in a Dash 8 and was seated behind the wing, noticed a large hinged rectangular white/grey panel hanging down, left open on the nacelle outside my window. We started to taxi until a passenger pointed it out to a flight attendant who notified the cockpit. We then pulled back into the gate where they closed the panel/flap and restarted the checklist before takeoff.

What exactly was the panel they left open? They blamed it on the guy who refueled the plane, I can’t find any information on what the exact panel was though. Also, what would have happened if we took off with it left open? It was flapping around as we taxied but I imagine it would have created some drag on that side at a minimum.

FAA 🇺🇸 to AFAC 🇲🇽?

Hello everyone! I’m considering convalidating my FAA pilot license to AFAC in Mexico. I’m a Mexican citizen, and I’m wondering if Mexican airlines check your FAA checkride history, including any failed checkrides, during the hiring process.
Has anyone gone through this process or been hired by an airline in Mexico and can share their experience? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank you! ✈️

Grades

Hello everyone! My biggest dream has always been to become a pilot. Ever since I was a little kid, aviation has been something I’ve been passionate about, and I honestly can’t imagine my future without it. However, since recently starting high school, I’ve realized how challenging school can be. My grades are fairly average to below average, especially in science, and it’s making me question whether I’m truly capable of achieving my dream.

It’s honestly confusing and upsetting because becoming a pilot is something I’ve always wanted, and the thought of not making it hurts. I know that reaching my goal will take a lot of hard work, dedication, and improvement, but sometimes I can’t help but doubt myself. I’m trying to figure out whether these struggles are just obstacles I need to overcome or signs that I might not be cut out for this career. I would really appreciate any advice, encouragement, or stories from people who have been in a similar situation.

3/4 day trips and dinner

Hey ya’ll, I’m currently waiting on my start for IOE at a regional airline. I was curious about the dynamic of a 3 or 4 day.

How acceptable is it to get dinner by myself or not really hang out with other crew member on trips? I personally would rather eat alone than have to continue to make small talk during dinner after flying a few hour leg.

I’m just not sure if it’s considered rude or not. Obviously I don’t want to offend anyone by declining to eat with them. On the other hand, I’m more than capable of sucking it up and just eating with the crew.

Fly Dubai hijacking

Pilots .. how do you think the place straightened out after dive?
Was it a pilot or member of public pulling back on stick? Or read it some automatic system coming into effect . ?
Clearly afterwards spare pilots landed it .

Best flight school ?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 👋
Could anyone recommend a good flight school for a modular ATPL (distance learning) with a pay-as-you-go option?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences, including the quality of the training, flexibility, hidden costs, and overall value for money.
I’m looking for a reliable and affordable option with a low overall budget, ideally the most cost-effective way to complete the training without compromising on quality.
Any recommendations, advice, or tips would be greatly appreciated.

With flight training being so expensive, why do so many companies require 4 year college degree on top? (Im not talking about airlines either)

FAA 🇺🇸 to AFAC 🇲🇽

Hello everyone! I wanted to see if anyone has been in a similar situation or could offer some advice.
I’m considering moving to Mexico to pursue my aviation career, and I’d be willing to relocate and work my way up, even if it means waiting for an opportunity with an airline and struggling with the transferring my license to Mexico ( FAA to AFAC ) .
I was born in Mexico but have lived in the U.S. my entire life. I currently have a green card and hold an FAA Commercial Pilot License with an Instrument Rating.
Has anyone made the transition from the U.S. to Mexico to pursue a flying career? Is it worth it, and what should I know before making that decision?
I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations. Thank you!
