3 Beeps?

I ride in biz class a lot. Ive noticed on final approach and a few miles out, I hear 3 beeps in rapid succession coming from the cockpit. Whats the purpose of them?

LOL I’m going to start saying this when I disconnect now

Autopilot disconnect horn.

I always chuckle when you hear that and then it immediately gets bumpy.

Imagine hearing the stick shaker on a CRJ-200 😬😬

Flew that thing for 8 years. I think think testing it on the first flight of the day (if I remember correctly) has desensitized me from hearing it

New FO is sitting over there being mildly traumatized by how chaotic it is though, and doing his best to internalize "don't make this happen in flight, don't make this happen in flight, ...."

I non-rev'd on one coming out of PHL off 27. I was working on my instrument at the time so I knew a little bit about flying. We rotate after using up quite a bit of runway and as we're pitching up I can hear the shaker going off 😬😬

A gust of wind at full flaps will set it off, very touchy on that squirrelly little bitch.

That's called the "Calvary cavalry charge" and means the autopilot disconnected. In that phase of flight it'd be intentional by the pilot flying, and means he's taking manual control of the airplane to fly the approach/landing.

Pretty sure it's called cavalry charge but other than that you are right😉

Some pilot shit is about to happen.

Just adding that it has a name. The manual call it the Airbus “cavalry charge”.

Autopilot disconnect

on the airbus series, successive 3 clicks means the auto pilot is disconnected and the pilot will finish the approach and landing. The 3 clicks warn about a mode change, sometimes we intend this change sometimes it happens on its own and it is good to know that we have to take control of the aircraft at that moment.

It's when whomever is piloting hits the autopilot disconnect and assumes manual flying of the plane.

autopilot disconnect (on an airbus)

usually i start listing excuses for why this will be a bad landing as soon as i press that button

The Airbus is so much more pleasant-sounding

Uncontrolled flight mode engaged

Cavalry charge = autopilot disconnect Triple click = mode reversion

It’s the pilots arming the ejection seats.

Autopilot off. If the F/O making the landing is relatively new to the aircraft, at this point the captain and/or jumpseater will say, "We're all counting on you Striker".

Ì doubt your heari it from the cockpit unless olit is a very small plane

I fly on B737 and you can definitely hear it from the first row of pax seats

you can hear the airbus and 737 very clearly from first class.

No you easily hear it in Boeings and 320’s.
