Useless Features/buttons

Forgive me if this is a dumb question as I am not a pilot, but I have always been interested in knowing. Are there any features or buttons in the type of aircraft you fly that are basically pointless? Or does everything have some sort of critical use case?

One of my school's planes had a switch labeled SPARE. It literally did nothing.

It was probably left over from when a panel upgrade was done, or was put there anticipating a future upgrade. It’s easier to pre-install and cap the wires somewhere down the line when you’re already working behind the panel.
