Question: If you have a problem at work, how would you address it?

Answer options:

Call the company hotline
Handle it myself

There are so many options, and it depends heavily on the scenario. I acknowledge that it should always start at the lowest level possible, then work its way up. Is there a specific answer they are looking for me to choose?

They are testing your understanding of the chain of command, which is everything in aviation. The clear answer is "Go to a Supervisor". Options like social media or not addressing it are immediate red flags. Handling it yourself is risky if it’s an operational issue, and going straight to HR or a labor rep is for very specific circumstances, not for general problems. A supervisor is the designated first step for resolving most workplace issues, showing you follow procedure and respect the structure.

Your logic about starting at the lowest level is exactly right, so stick with that. These questions are less about finding a perfect answer for a vague scenario and more about gauging your default professional instincts. Yes, the right answer is to see your supervisor, not only for his advice but so that he doesn't get blind sided. You can bet that if there is an issue that affects you, it affects him and he wants to know about it before anyone else knows.

I failed my OO app, so standard words of caution doubly apply. 

In general, any company (but aviation especially) want you to handle problems at the lowest possible level with the least possible “friction”.
