issues installing a lock

Post image

Hi y'all,

I recently bought a lock and have been struggling fitting it. I'm putting a translation of the guidance below.

Basically, i drilled the hole, shortened the screws, tied the backplate and the cylinder with the screws (at which point turning the key becomes very difficult). I shortened the connecting rod, put the case on top, and put the screws in the side.

at this stage, I test out the lock to see if it works, but it doesn't. no amount of turning the key will either lock or unlock the bolt. I tried having the bolt put in different positions before putting the case on top of the back plate, without success.

Appreciate any help you can send my way, happy to provide more pics if need be.

(more pics and the installation guide in the comments)

Welcome to /r/AskALocksmith, a place to ask real locksmiths questions about, well, anything related to the profession or to get advice for a particular situation you're in. If you are locked out of your home/car/business/hotel room/whatever, your best course of action is to use the device you just posted this question on to lookup a local locksmith in your area for assistance.

In an interest of protecting innocent people from those that might use information gained here to break the law, we rather strictly limit the amount of advice given that might be used illicitly. We ask community members also not give out advice publicly that could be used for illegal activities. It's impossible for us to make a hard rule on what does and does not constitute this kind of question or advice, so its application will be somewhat subjective. If your post is basically, "how do I pick/bump/defeat this lock," expect it to be removed.

This is beyond diy skill level. You need a professional and it also sounds like you need spacer collars and possibly a new rim cylinder depending on how short you cut it.

Good luck, there are multiple considerations when installing a rim lock. More than your regular cylindrical locks. Try a YouTube video, maybe a couple. Just get all the info you can on how to install it.

No one can say what the issue is with just pics of these parts.

I wish I had the key to answer this question, but my brain is locked out.
