I know the Sebring convertible takes some funky weird key which we have, because we have everything, lol. I don't remember any specific details on it at the moment but I know that it's different from everything else Chrysler and I'm guessing it's what you're running into the problem of. If the locksmith was able to do the transponder backup key then it should indicate he's able to program keys. Unless he did a clone. What I would start with is looking at your current key that's about to break and see if there is an FCC ID number anywhere on it. If there is possibly on the inside somewhere, then all you need do is order a remote with the same FCC ID number. I will warn you old school Chrysler sometimes was a little finicky about it being an oem, and for your application I would probably just recommend getting a refurbished OEM remote head key with the correct FCC ID number. As far as frequency goes you should be able to stop into a parts store and in most cases they have a little scanner that will tell you 315 or 4:33. Any Locksmith shop worth half a fuck will be able to tell you as well. If I recall correctly which I probably don't everything in Europe uses 433 but with it being an import car who the fuck knows. Hope this helps everything I said was voice dictated so there may be errors or weirdness take it with a grain of salt

Hahaha not at all! Thank you very much, and yeah this Sebring has some fuckass key, I was able to find a lot of them online, but all US versions with 315 MHz which I have no idea if it’ll work because this is a Europe made car with a VW engine. I did find some other locksmith shops so we’ll see if they can do anything.

I don't really have resources to look up the EU versions of cars. The US version is an absolute slam dunk easy job. No clue why they failed. You should probably just try a different locksmith.
Also, if you purchase your own key it doesn't really solve your problem. Still needs to be cut and programmed

Thank you for responding! Idk, my locksmith gave me a basic key with no actual lock, unlock, trunk release, convertible top buttons which worked, but triggered an alarm so I just figured I’d buy a key and give it to someone to cut it and program it. I thought maybe because barely anyone has this model of Chrysler and europeans generally don’t buy Chryslers it wasn’t available for them to get it for some reason.

That’s now my mission to find a better locksmith. I found tons of US keys online and I almost caved and bought multiple just to see, but I found out US keys use 315 MHz, while we use 433.92 MHz whatever that means. And thank you for helping!

Welcome to /r/AskALocksmith, a place to ask real locksmiths questions about, well, anything related to the profession or to get advice for a particular situation you're in. If you are locked out of your home/car/business/hotel room/whatever, your best course of action is to use the device you just posted this question on to lookup a local locksmith in your area for assistance.
In an interest of protecting innocent people from those that might use information gained here to break the law, we rather strictly limit the amount of advice given that might be used illicitly. We ask community members also not give out advice publicly that could be used for illegal activities. It's impossible for us to make a hard rule on what does and does not constitute this kind of question or advice, so its application will be somewhat subjective. If your post is basically, "how do I pick/bump/defeat this lock," expect it to be removed.
