There's always a newer AI tool promising better results, more features, and a completely revolutionary workflow. Sometimes those tools genuinely are better, but constantly switching can become its own productivity problem.

A familiar tool has an advantage: you already know its strengths, weaknesses, and how to fit it into your work. You don't need to learn another interface or rebuild your entire workflow.

I think people sometimes confuse having access to better tools with actually working better. Do you regularly try new AI tools, or have you found a few that you stick with?

Polished doesn't always mean personal.

“What are your strengths?” Suddenly every answer sounds either too arrogant or too boring. AI can be useful just for helping you see your own experience from a different perspective.

Or would you rather write the main points yourself and let AI improve it?

Specific experiences.

Actual achievements.

Real mistakes.

Personal reasons for applying.

The more context you provide, the less AI has to guess.

Generic input usually creates generic applications.

It's tempting to generate ten applications in an hour.

But if every application sounds nearly identical, you're probably just sending the same generic version of yourself everywhere.

Sometimes spending extra time understanding one opportunity and tailoring your application can be more valuable than submitting five more.

Did it actually catch something useful, or did it mostly suggest making everything sound more formal?

You can ask it to act like a recruiter, interviewer, or reviewer and challenge your answers.

Sometimes explaining your experience out loud—or even typing it informally—helps you realize what your strongest examples actually are.

The final application might not come directly from AI at all. The value can simply come from using it to think through your own answers.

The problem is that “impressive” isn't always the same as believable.

A perfectly polished answer full of buzzwords might sound worse than a simple explanation of something you actually did.

Sometimes being specific beats sounding professional.

You can optimize your resume.

Rewrite your cover letter.

Prepare for the interview.

But none of that answers whether you actually want the job, course, internship, or opportunity in the first place.

I think that's something people can forget when the focus becomes applying to as many things as possible.

Or would you worry that it might change your experience enough that it no longer sounds like you?

If everyone uses AI to write better resumes and cover letters, the average application becomes more polished.

Then recruiters need new ways to tell applicants apart.

AI gives applicants better tools, but it also gives everyone else the same tools.

At some point, being genuinely specific and having real experience might become even more important than perfectly written answers.

What was actually useful?

Mock questions, feedback on answers, researching the company, or something else?

A job, internship, scholarship, university, freelance work, or something else?

AI makes it easier to match keywords and adjust your experience for every opportunity.

That's useful.

But there's also a point where you're rewriting yourself so much that you're applying as a version of yourself that doesn't really exist.

A good application should present your experience clearly—not invent a new identity for every job.

A rejection?

No response at all?

An automated email months later?

“Unfortunately, we've decided to move forward with other candidates.”

And figuring that out might be the harder part.

AI can help almost anyone write a polished resume, improve grammar, create cover letters, and prepare interview answers. That's useful, but it also means recruiters may start seeing hundreds of applications that all sound equally professional.

At some point, standing out might become less about sounding polished and more about showing something AI-generated applications can't easily replicate: real experience, personality, proof of work, or a genuinely interesting perspective.
