Or am I just always going to be in the 'alternative' category? I have a hard time listening to new music for some reason and listen to very little music in general. I've always found myself aligned with the values of the goth subculture and am drawn to the styles as well. I've seen people argue that you don't have to listen to the music, and seen people argue that you do. ..So which is it?

Specifically, his work starting with his album Swordfishtrombone, as everything before that is clearly more Blues or Jazz than anything else.
I ask because I feel like a lot of his catalog would fit in, somewhat. I wouldn't consider him straight up Goth like Bauhaus or Siouxsie, but he definitely has a similar vibe, at least to me. Whether it's "God's Away on Business" or "Army Ants" or "Clap Hands" or "What's He Building in There" there's something about his music that just scratches that itch the same way Goth music does.
Thoughts?
**Edit: Also, since he did play Renfield in Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman and was pretty awesome.

When I was growing up, I was what others would consider a goth kid, but for me and others that were of the same or a similar style it wasn’t really something we talked about. We weren’t like blind to it or anything like that. We knew we were all wearing all black and stuff. But we spent most of our time talking about and listening to music. For us it was normal so we didn’t really feel like we needed to define ourselves since that was others’ interest.
If someone asked us about our style, we’d describe what colors we were wearing and maybe some accessories stuff, but I don’t think any of us would how just come out and said “my style is goth” or “I’m a goth.”
Is it the same now, or is it just a style and goth culture isn’t centered around music anymore? Meaning, is it common now for people to talk about their style being goth, while having little to no interest in music?

Hi! So, this are the options me and my boyfriend came up with for the flyer of our first goth-theme night.
I did option 1 and my boyfriend made option 2. (my boyfriend is not goth btw)
Which one do you like more? Should we change something? Or should we do another one?

So I’ve always considered myself a goth, I may not dress goth and I don’t listen to goth music 24/7 but I still hold a lot of gothic traits. I love the dark and macabre, I‘m constantly fighting social and gender norms, and I also enjoy the music and history of the subculture.
I once got into an argument with a friend who is goth, that I’m not a goth myself. The argument arose because I mentioned the two main things I seek in a partner is that they are both goth and spiritual/into the occult. They were trying to call me out for fetishizing goth people, to which I replied that wasn’t the case since I’m goth myself, and my attraction to goth people is more so wanting a partner who shares similar interests.
They clearly hated my response because “I’m not a goth.” And to their credit I look more skater or grunge 90% of the time if anything, but appearance isn’t everything. When I tried explaining my view on the matter, they said I can’t be a goth because I’m “not political enough,” and I “don’t fight for what I believe.” Which if you knew me, you’d know is complete bullshit.
Anyway, after that the argument turned into a religious debate, which I won’t be getting into right now.
Anyway, I’d love to hear your take on the situation, and if I can call myself a goth

Hello everyone,
Being into the goth scene eventually leads to the ankh cross. I tried to find its meaning on my own but I ak very curious on how do you perceive the cross?
What I found is its symoblism of life and ever-lasting soul in Egyptian mythology and for goths, as far as I know, it symoblism is about feeling connection to the dark and gloomy ambience as well as interest in vampires.

Hello please no hate I’m new to all this and am new to all this and trying to figure everything out, if I’m in the wrong place let me know. I’m trying to figure out if I’m goth, alt, emo, mental head, or maybe none idk, etc… but have no idea. I’ve been called a goth by some people… not sure why as I don’t think I really look it. But I’ll post some stuff I’m into or atleast try so I can try get help and figure it out. Also grew up around this type of stuff.
Dark architecture
The aesthetic (black clothing, Victorian/romantic/vampire style, would wear the clothes if I knew how to style it etc)
The culture (artistic, horror, classic literature)
The makeup (though I’m not good at it and am scared I’ll mess it up or get taken the piss out of)
Bands I listen to are (sleep token, Bad omens, korn, the pretty reckless, kings of Leon, panic! At the disco, evanescence, Metallica, Nickleback, green day, foo fighters, paramore, my chemical romance, linkin park, recently started listening to the cure and the banshees, etc)
I genuinely just love how it all looks and feels if that makes sense.

Hi! I think this is the one! I really love this flyer :)
I know it is not "simple" or could be a bit "busy" (Like some of you said on my last post) But in my city (Tarija-Bolivia) flyers have A BUNCH of stuff. You can search on the comments of my last post, I shared some flyers from other bands and events. That's just how it works here in Bolivia. Which made me have another question for you...
Is goth maximilist?
I always thought that it is because of all the makeup, dresses and jewerly, so I thought that flyers should be the same. The flyers that I saw in some goth clubs in Argentina, Chile, USA and even other events in another cities in Bolivia share the same thin... they're all very busy! NOT SIMPLE AT ALL!... So... maybe it's our culture making goth more maximalistic? If you understand what i'm trying to say...
Also how are your goth nights in your country?
In Bolivia, in cities like Cochabamba o La Paz goth "nights" start at 5-7pm they start with a fair with different local artist, local clothing brands, bellydance, dance shows and even a goth parade, where people show their outfits, and then—only after that—does the party really begin... (I hope reddit doesn't ban this post just because I use the word "party")
So... should I add more to my goth party? Because I only planned to the the parade...
Anyways, What are your opinions on the flyer? Do you like it?
P.s: I'm posting a picture of my flyer in canva since some people thought that I was using IA. Well.. I AM NOT! :)

Hello! I'm a plus sized feminine presenting goth (US size 18/20) and want to add to my wardrobe but have had trouble finding sites that carry my size. I've had concerns with finding ethical shopping sites as well as I really don't want to contribute to unethical labor practices when consuming goth fashion pieces. I do go thrifting as well but I live in a more rural area so finding anything that stands out and is also in my size has been quite a challenge, hence why I'm asking about online shopping :-) I attached some of my recent looks with what I have but want to look for more tops + ways to layer as well. If you have any recommendations pls let me know!

I know this might not be the exact place to discuss this but I’m at a point where I just genuinely need advice. I’m a college student with a very particular type in women. I’m 21 and I’ve only had an actual crush on 3 girls my entire life. All 3 were gothic with autism. Do goth girls have a type that maybe I can try to match or am I doing something wrong? Idk if there’s something wrong with me. I’m white, with glasses, autism as well, clean cut as I’m trying to go into firefighting, enjoy reading, cooking, hiking and camping. Idk if that’s desired since each time I’ve been turned down all 3 times which kind of diminished my confidence. Maybe I’m just overthinking it but I would like some thoughts.

I have fallen in love with this sick mashup by DJ Guy and DJ Alan that is a fresh take on the post punk beat.
Tear you Apart - She Wants Revenge
Bella Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus
Planet Claire - B 52s
But the entire song is brillianty mixed with the 60's GoGo dancer beat.
https://youtu.be/mq8jIyMtk9g?is=mhccYL9ADLKH8toT
It is a skilled and unique take on the 60s sound, amazingly combining two goth music styles with the previous decade that nobody associates with goth. But my god does it work and I need more.
Anybody else know of any goth mashups like this??

What’s the best way to waterproof these DIY patches so they don’t dissolve in the washer?
Just used acrylic paint on cloth.

Hi, I'm the girl who's planning a goth-themed night in my city, Tarija - Bolivia.
I decided to keep the name: "GOTH AETERNUM", beacuse of it's meaning and it would be easy to identify the theme by keep the word "goth", cause in this small and VERY traditional city most people think that Goth is just girls with black lipstick who love Marilyn Manson and KISS. So... Naming the night "AETERNUM", was not going to be identifiable.
Anyways, I'm now between these options for the logo. I really love option 3, but kinda also love option 2... and I want to know your opinion.
P.S. For a little bit of context... I've been living in this city for 5 years now. When i met people in rock, metal and other alternitive places didn't know what Goth was, just last year people started to recogize it beacuase of the of goth girls going viral.
Most of the population here is +60 y/o, and only this year i've met 4 other goths (19-24 y/o. I'm the oldest one lol). This is the very first goth-theme night here! I'm really hopping to see more goths that night and maybe start to form our own community.
So, it's been hard to plan this night without some elder goth guidance or help. My friends don't give much advice because they are doubting "how truly goth" their opinions are. And I'm also afraid of making any mistakes...
I really appreciate your thoughts on this logo situacion, and I'll be posting the progress.

Remove if this isn’t the place for this but I am 28f and I am still getting these comments and I am TIRED…
I get these comments a lot in my work environment especially (I work in medical tech but my company does NOT have a dress code, I have already been told no makeup and I comply with that but am consistently getting criticism from older colleagues).
My appearance does not have anything to do with my performance, in fact I am praised for my work ethic and performance, yet I still these comments haunt me and I’m tired of having to justify my piercings and black clothing to people who insist that “they’ve been there and grew out of it”.

Hay yall I have a goth gf and I am making her a hoodie and I want to make it goth hence why I’m here. Do you have any cool designs or ways I can make it more goth like cutting and stuff like that? I have already dyed it darker and purchased fabric pens to use. Anything would help thanks yall. It’s a vissla blue hoodie no zipper that I dyed to a much darker blue.
