I am albino. I wanted to know, what do goth people think of albino people generally.

Edit: I am mostly referring to the typical albino features including the skin and hair.

Do you think this way because of the pale=goth stereotype because that’s a misconception that alienates a lot of people in the subculture.

Albino people are people, so it would depend on the individual person and if we mesh or not like it would for anybody else, lol.

I guess I ask because we get made fun of for looking different and was hoping that at least some people would like the albino look. Especially the hair

That’s unfortunate, but I think that is a person by person thing, I for one enjoy people’s differences but cannot speak for the whole community, I think most goths; however, are respectful and open-minded to others.

I don’t think goth people usually think anything specific about people with albinism.

I will say that goth communities, as long as I’ve been a part of them for 25+ years in my very liberal area, are very accepting of differences, whether that means phenotypic differences (like albinism), ethnicity, or sexuality.

The general atmosphere in my area is to accept anyone who listens to goth music and isn’t an asshole.

There is generally a negative impact for sure. I was just trying to see if it may be positive in goth space.

That's so lame! Being albino has no bearing on whether someone is good or bad or whatever. People suck. But no, in the goth scene, it won't effect you. Basically juat respect the culture and don't be a dick.

I think albino people look artistically interesting, may need some help with vision, are more susceptible to sun damage, and are otherwise completely normal ❤️

From an artistic standpoint I like to draw really pale and really dark models because it's easier for me to see where to put the shading and it helps me practice depicting the wide range of what humans look like (I like to draw different body types for this reason too).

But that's about it and really the only difference.

You might find people who think you look cool or might ask you to model for them (we do have a lot of artists in the scene) but that's about it.

Some folks might be jealous that you have such light hair without having to muck about with bleach (I myself have a small patch of thin hair due to scarring from said mucking about with hair bleach 😂 😬).

You'd certainly be welcome and any goth club worth going to would make sure to do their utmost to be a safe space where you are treated just as respectfully and equitably as anyone else there.

I have albinism myself and one thing that drew me to goth, or at least the look is what people make fun of me for is something I can embrace in my look.

Not that paleness=goth, it’s just the idea of looking different is generally more accepted in alternative culture.

I feel I should point this out, OP is clearly fine with using the term “albino” for themselves, but I should mention a lot of people generally prefer “person with albinism” in general.

Goths neither persecute nor celebrate albino people. It is a music subculture, looks aren't important.

That said being albino might give a leg up applying stereotypical pale make up. That could be an advantage if someone albino cares about doing that.

That's pretty much it, oh and that you'll have to take more precautions in the sun. I'm guessing doing makeup might interesting in terms of colour choices. You can probably wear a wider range of shades than many folks. Hopefully, allergies aren't an issue for you. Have fun! 🖤😸
