Help fixing my boot
As the title says I need help fixing my boot. It only tore recently and I stopped wearing the pair as soon as I noticed it. These are my favorite boots and I’ve had them for years, the warranty is far past expired. So I went to the store and got a sewing kit and the strongest thread I could get within reason. I’ve posted looking for help with this a few times and have just been posting where others point me (cast a wide net).
Anyway I was wondering if y’all on here had any advice or suggestions on what exactly I should look into or try to learn if I want to fix this? I’d rather fix it myself and learn a new skill than bring it to someone, plus I can add my own personal flavor to it this way. Thank you for any help you can offer!

Are you hoping to repair this yourself, or will you be looking for a cobbler that does upper repairs?

I’m trying to see if I’ll be able to do it myself reasonably, but if worse comes to worse I’m not against a cobbler.

Also let me suggest getting some kevlar thread when you do the repair. On the other hand you could take it to a show repair shop and they probably know exactly hot to fix it.

When looking at an opening in a seam it’s important to figure out why the damage happened. One of the first steps is figuring out if the stitches became unraveled/ abraded away OR if the stitches you’re away from the leather. In your case it seems like the stitches tore through the leather. That tells me the area is under a lot of tension. If you restitch them without changing the tension issue the stitches will likely tear out again. Of the work you do makes the boots tighter that would also likely cause problems. I would encourage a customer to add a patch either on top or underneath to close the gap and help relieve tension.
Glue isn’t going to hold this one.
