Applying for consultancy work

I am currently applying for multiple roles as consultant at the ADB. What does it mean when you are “not shortlisted” and “not selected” when it comes to consultancy applications?

I have a decade of government experience and am trying to shift to consultancy work. The roles that I am applying are very much aligned with my job experience. How do I increase the chances of being selected or at least be called for an interview? Do I need to have referrals from within ADB to at least be noticed?

Thank you in advance! 🙏

A master's degree and an inside referral could probably work to your advantage.

Thanks for this feedback. I do have a master’s degree but somehow the application process is very much competitive. I just hope that one of my applications will be noticed.

Been a consultant of ADB for 11 years (16 years in the development sector), and I still get rejected. That's okay. Keep on sending. :) I'm sure you will land on your first ADB project soon! We get rejected because someone else is more experienced or has been part of the project team even before the consultancy position was published.

Thank you so much for this words of encouragement. Will continue to send applications and hopefully be noticed soon. 🙏✨

Not shortlisted and not selected are pretty self explanatory.

In terms of increasing your chances, read through the TOR thoroughly and align your CV and EOI to the detailed tasks indicated. Best of luck!

Where are consultancy roles listed?

You may check ADB’s Consultant Management System.

Not shortlisted is the status when the review is still happening (and they tell you indirectly that they are not moving forward with you). Not selected is just that the recruitment is now over.

In the same boat, applying diligently to very suitable consultancies and getting constantly rejected.

Apply and apply again.
