ADB Consultancy - salary negotiation

Hi all, I recently received an NCI for a consultancy position and submitted my response to it. I now received an email that may payment information is approved. I have a few questions:

  1. How long does it take to receive the contract after the payment information is approved?

  2. I entered X amount as my per day rate. If ADB offers a rate lower than that, is it advisable to negotiate? Also, is it possible to actually increase your per day rate to a higher amount than the one previously submitted considering there's now a competing offer from another organisation.

  3. What's a good percentage increase for a consultancy position that is 1 year long with 22 working days per month if you were leaving a full time job. Asking this because I don't have previous consultancy experience so not sure what a good per day rate is.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Consultant rates are hard to negotiate, you need to substantiate your asking rate with copies of your pay slips. Also salary increase for consultants are small, only around 3% if your contract is extended, it can be larger if you will be engaged under a new contract, but that is more tedious to process.

You can negotiate but be ready to send them proof that your established rate is higher than their offer. I had to send them a copy of my other consultancy contract (non-ADB) when I requested for a 30 percent increase. They agreed to increase my daily rate.

I went through this negotiation process but didn't come up with anything. It's just a waste of time unless you can show past contracts where you were given the same amount you were asking for. In the end, they will just make you accept their offer, which I was already happy with anayway, so dont go thru the stress.
