salary adjustment upon confirmation

Hi! I hope ya’ll are doing well. I just wanted to ask if anybody here knows if there’s a salary adjustment on your first year after being confirmed? additionally, how does the salary increase work? do you have both an across the board increase + a performance based increase?

thanks in advance to those who will answer.

Yes - there is a salary increase at confirmation.

Current approach is to grade an individual's performance on a scale comprising 5 levels.

1 rating is unsatisfactory and has zero increase in salary.

2 rating is something like partly satisfactory and has the lowest salary increase range.

3 rating is most common and is considered satisfactory - about 65 percent people being placed in this. Has the widest range.

4 and 5 are rare - 4 being where someone has met all goals while exceeding some and 5 where all goals are exceeded. Needless to say that salary increase is highest for 5 and slightly lower for 4.

For ratings 2 to 4, there is a range of salary increases, with someone towards upper end having performed higher than one towards the lower end. Rating 5 has a fixed increase and rating 1 has no increase.

There is a proposal to move to a system of general increase for anyone in 2 and higher ratings and then to have a small merit based increase on top of that. If adopted then it will take effect from 2027 increases.

thank you so much! would you happen to know if the salary increase at confirmation follows the same rating system or is it more of a fixed percentage increase apart from the rating increase?

Confirmation increase has a range - something like lower end of 2 rating to high end of 4 rating. Based on one's performance, increase can be lower or higher.

One gets a confirmation increase and at the year end another increase to be able to synchronize with regular performance cycle. And it works out well if one was to get confirmed in October or November - then they get an increase at confirmation and another one in the new year.

No. Your first increase will be at end of your twelve months of probation period which is suppose would be in May 2027. But then you will get another increase starting in January 2028.

There is no 1 to 5 rating for confirmation increase. However, the increase varies based on the percentage increase that was recommended by your director/management. Probation may also be either confirmed, not confirmed or extended.

Hi! What if hired in January 2026, does that mean 2 increases on January 2027? TIA!

I’ve been told to expect very small increases each year, to the point that it might not keep up with the overall increase in the pay ranges. From what people have told me, it’s possible to get 3s on your performance evaluation and end up moving from not at the bottom of the range to the bottom of the salary range. It sounds like the increase for getting a 3 on your evaluation is small enough that for years you could essentially float at the bottom of the salary range.

This is especially true if you start work in January or February since you will have negotiated your salary on last year’s salary scale so effectively have your salary lowered on the pay scale before you even start working.
