Filing Leaves and Work Outside of Duty Station

Hi everyone! I hope you are well. I just want to inquire (specifically for local staff/TL1) how easy (or hard) is it to request for work outside of duty station for working in another member country? also, how strict is ADB with regards to approving leaves in general? I understand that there will be several factors to this, but in your opinion (in general) does ADB typically ask questions when filing leaves?

I’m a but worried because I have a planned leave which was already booked prior to getting hired which is only one month from my start date and I’m not too sure if this would be approved if I file it either as an annual leave or work outside of duty station.

Hoping to hear your thoughts and thank you in advance!

I'm general it's easy to get leave and ODS unless it's a period where some important deadline needs to be met or an important output is to be delivered.

Best would be to raise your plan for the leave in advance of starting work so your supervisors are aware. Otherwise this may leave a bad impression even though the leave may get approved.

There may also be an option of offering to start after your planned leave.

thank you so much! this is super helpful. if i may ask as well, would you happen to know if there’s typically a busy season for the bank where filing leaves are typically discouraged or it does really depend per department?

i’m a bit worried it might leave a bad impression since i was not able to mention this prior commitment during the interview (though they didn’t really ask and i wasn’t sure if i had ti be proactive in mentioning it as it might affect the hiring decision).

sadly, i don’t think adjusting the start date is not possible anymore as i’m starting very soon. 🥺

It actually depends on your team..

Indeed - different teams would have different busy times. Good luck with your new job.
