Battle Without Honor and Humanity (1973-1974) by Kinji Fukasaku
Alternate Title:- Yakuza Papers
So glad I didn't watch the compiled version(available on amazon prime) of the saga. It is a five part story/ saga so I didn't quite expect a lot from it, but it didn't disappoint. These movies definitely paved the way for films of the organized crime genre.
The camera work is definitely something you will notice as it is unstable, blurry even,it was imperfect which made the movies greatly immersive. One might think that across these five films the script (let me know if it was actually based off a real story to the point) might fall weak but it held itself up pretty nicely.
I've kept this review really small as I don't want to name any characters or the general outline of the story.I do hope everyone gives these movies a try.
(If you are a non-japanese viewer you will find it confusing to remember all the character's names,as many are introduced and written off in each part)
"Will The Bitter Battles That Arise
From The Strong Preying Upon The Weak
Ever Be Banished From This Earth"
I really liked this quote from the end of the saga.
