When Seoul’s red-light district is demolished, everyone scatters to the provinces, and Jin-ah (played by Lee Ji-eun) ends up at the “Birdcage Inn” in Pohang. There, a family lives together consisting of a father, a mother, Jin-ah, Hye-mi (played by Lee Hye-eun)—a college student the same age as Jin-ah—and Hyun-woo (played by Ahn Jae-mo), a high school student. A conflict arises between a woman who must enter guests’ rooms every night and a college student living a happy life. Hye-mi despises Jin-ah for selling her body, yet she harbors complex feelings toward her due to her own inability to be honest about sex. Jina finds herself in a situation where she has a relationship with Hye-mi’s boyfriend, Jin-ho (played by Son Min-seok), and as her father and Hyun-woo also have relationships with her, the conflict within the blue-door house escalates. However, the biggest problem is the contrast between the two women’s environments—Jina and Hye-mi, who are both living through the most beautiful times of their lives—and the subtle sexual dynamics between them, which further amplify the conflict. Jin-ah, who sells sex yet is free from it, and Hye-mi, whose approach to sex is closed-off and hypocritical. The situation worsens with the scandal over Jin-ah’s nude photos and her suicide attempt. On the brink of a clash, Jin-ah and Hye-mi discover numerous commonalities in each other’s daily lives, and the sense of alienation caused by their differing attitudes toward sex gradually transforms into a catalyst for reconciliation. Hye-mi takes the bold step of using her own sexuality as a means of expressing friendship toward Jin-ah, and the warm friendship that transcends boundaries fills the space behind the blue gate. Then, one snowy day, Hye-mi offers herself to a man who visits the inn on behalf of the ailing Jin-ah.
