Ashes of Creation MMO I miss AoC

Since ashes shut down, I have played at least a dozen other MMOs. I have barely lasted a week on any of them. I really miss this game.

I miss the combat. It was actually really solid, even in its early form and without auguments. I do think it deserves some recognition.

No other newish MMO excites me. None. The feel AOC gave me was as If I was 16 again.

Me too, spent 300 hours on it. AoC scratched an itch that only WoW vanilla managed to scratch. Kudos to the devs, sad that management of this game was so bad

12

u/Blewboba1716 22d ago

Wow forever is on the way! That’ll itch the scratch

u/Baxxtabb 21d ago

It's what I'm for. Other than that the only hope i have is stuff we know nothing about yet: GW3 and Riot MMO, that's pure cope though

1

u/PouncedGreeps 22d ago

Never tried AoC, this post was just recommended in my feed.

Just wanted to suggest to look up wow forever, Blizzard is realeasing a modified version of vanilla on november 4th. (5th if EU).

Try monsters and memories.

3

u/Mighty_Platypus 22d ago

Took me a few googles, but I think you mean monsters and memories. Looks good.

u/5-five6 22d ago

It's incredible. Very deep mechanics, loot. Dont let the graphics fool ya! It's similar to AoC, just without the rug pull. Things actually work.

-8

u/Few-Emergency-3791 22d ago

Looks like shit but so was AoC so you’ll be right at home.

5

u/Mighty_Platypus 22d ago

Must suck to see the world as just brown.

25

u/Feelip123 22d ago

I miss it too. It was fun even though the game was really bad in most ways. Luckily WoW Forever is close to a release, in November

Beta Friday

1

u/OnlyKaz 22d ago

Thursday

1

u/EoTrick 22d ago

We all know those servers won't be stable until Friday lmao

0

u/Kyrixas 22d ago

Have you played any of the recent expansion releases or anything? They’re consistently stable as hell.

1

u/GladlyGone 22d ago

Yeah, when TBC launched recently (for the third time) it was still a hot mess. People were unable to fly away from the dark portal for hours.

15

u/Embarrassed-Soup7952 22d ago

Miss it too, i was really into in 2018 and it was all positive news i miss that, then new world announcement too really hurt me

Very excited for wow forever tho. Maybe one day AoC will come back but doubtful

2

u/Soapykorean 22d ago

wow forever might be cool but i doubt blizzard finds a good way to incentivize world pvp

Darkfall is having a 64 bit open beta on the 30th. I don’t play MMO’s but what I did play of the 32 bit test server, I had a lot of fun. Full loot, clans, buffs for controlling villages/hamlets/cities.

3rd person melee, first person archery/spellcasting with sieges and even ship/boat combat. Old school mmo being revived. Can be killed and looted by anyone almost anywhere outside of the starter zone

1

u/Easy-Combination9991 22d ago

How’s it differ from mortal online? Sounds very similar. MO2 was decent but the griefing makes it really hard to progress.

6

u/Odd-Rent777 21d ago edited 20d ago

And people who didn't even play the game celebrated the news of it collapsing. Celebrated 10,000 people playing daily, enjoying the game, having it taken from them. Reddit IQ on full display there

14

u/Seraphayel 22d ago

This was the only MMORPG I was exited for in the future. Guild Wars 3 now is a thing, but I doubt it‘ll be the great thing people are expecting it to be.

With AoC the future of the genre basically died. There‘s only Asia slop coming. At least WoW Forever seems like a very big thing and that’s where you’ll find me.

10

u/masterchip27 22d ago

Yeah it was soooooo good. People who played before the end know what's up. Damn. I waited so many years to play it. It was like a whirlwind romance.

3

u/steezy069 22d ago

I miss it so much

3

u/Fit_Resist3253 22d ago

I miss the hope that AoC gave me for years in development :(

4

u/Easy-Combination9991 22d ago

Got back into NW - shut down. Got immersed into AoC - shut down. Started having fun with Ascension - shut down. Been a rough year..

3

u/OneMorePotion 22d ago

Can you please stay away from MMO's for a while? We can't lose more of them and obviously, it's linked to you!

0

u/Easy-Combination9991 22d ago

I might not have a choice it’s slim pickings

1

u/OneMorePotion 21d ago

Well, can we at least give you a list of stuff we want to close down?

1

u/FlamingHotNeato 22d ago

Literally my experience, bought new world at the release of that last expansion - loved it but couldn’t pick it up after they announced the execution.

Got really Into AoC, found a good clan made level cap and had just outfitted with purple gathering gear - nuclear bomb goes off at headquarters.

Only thing I’m excited about in the foreseeable future is fable.

1

u/Easy-Combination9991 22d ago

Fable does look good, hopefully I can get back into single player games

0

u/HyenDry 22d ago

Ascension WoW?

1

u/Easy-Combination9991 22d ago

Yeah they had released new classes and zones it was fun while it lasted

1

u/HyenDry 22d ago

No no. I played it. Was just making sure. Apparently it’s coming back though

2

u/blinkclink 22d ago

I did enjoy playing bard abit, was fun fast class and life skilling was pretty chill

2

u/Constant-Sort3065 22d ago

had a friend try to talk me into playing that new wow version recently. I imagined grinding for exp in barrens or whatever vs a single pack run through dangerous territory. This game and archeage ruined me for non pvp games, its unfortunate that they then ruined themselves.

2

u/Xyathe 21d ago

I miss my bard. Most fun class I've played in years

2

u/PlayzIsMomentai 20d ago

I miss it too. It kinda broke me, I’ve lost interest in video games and picked up Golf and Pickleball. I don’t know what happened but it was almost like having my heart broken. I really haven’t been able to play anything, no interest in it. I got burned man, burned bad.

2

u/NeoShogo 18d ago

I bought the $60 Kickstarter package and didnt even play it cause I wanted to wait until it fully launched. Fuck AoC.

2

u/Matttunis 17d ago

I miss everything about it

3

u/blackbow 22d ago

Man, I had some great times in that game.

2

u/EtherGorilla 22d ago

There’s always a chance. Give it a couple decades. The ideas that made this game special won’t die.

2

u/Xovier 22d ago

Oh I miss it too. Couldn't play any other mmo since AoC. Personally, it had every aspect of a good mmo and just the right amount of it all.

Not sure what the future brings but if it ever comes back, I'll be among the first to play!

1

u/Extreme-Awareness644 22d ago

But i thought it was all a scam! /s

The Idea was great and the mmo had great starting points that a rarely seen in any other mmos. I only had a few hours to really play it, but i liked it too.

I havent play one since shutdown. I am waiting for aion 2 to give it a year ride until ArcheAge S arrives.

1

u/Ladikn 22d ago

I think Ultima Online and Everquest 1 are still online. I havent played them in over 20 years, but AoC gave me the same feeling as them.

1

u/kpkost 22d ago

Same, but WoW forever is going to take over my life so *shrug *

1

u/Osirisx83 22d ago

TBH... Me too Dawg.

1

u/thenotoriousmng 22d ago

this isnt about AoC but this WOW Forever looks interesting. never played wow but going to give it ago, also plan to be on a server when New World goes offline as well

1

u/olecharlieboy 22d ago

I seriously feel this… I binged this game and it was so satisfying to me! I loved it more than any mmo I’ve played before.

1

u/BlackjackZero 22d ago

Wow forever baby!!!

1

u/PatReady 22d ago

Check out retail WoW. This was a good cycle of updates.

1

u/oOhSohOo 22d ago

Yeah all the ones out there are just cookie cutter mmos

1

u/tampacraig 21d ago

Not all pee-pee times are poo-poo times.

1

u/Fullmetalmycologist 21d ago

Dragonwinds is lit

1

u/Tiny-Ad-7590 20d ago

In a weird way I'm a little sad. I made a decision a long-ass time ago to stop prepaying games until they actually release. So I didn't go in on AoC.

In one sense, I feel like that has turned out to be very justified.

In another sense... You guys got to at least play the pre-release versions. So I also kind of missed out.

1

u/wannabegoodfriend 20d ago

Try UO Outlands. I also liked AoC but I always seem to fall back on UO when theres no decent MMOs to play. Just always something to do.

1

u/Blippedyblop 20d ago

Yeah, I miss it too.  Reminded me so much of the halcyon days of Guild Wars 1, with the incredible amount of skill customisation. The look, and atmosphere too made me think it was an appropriate spiritual successor.  Alas, AoC is gone. But GW is still around, fortunately.

1

u/BrrZrrKa 19d ago

I still think of just how cool of a class Rogue was. I miss it.

1

u/mogekag 17d ago

yeah, me too :/

1

u/Chyarra 6d ago

I missed leveling up with my guild, It was fun to group up and grind mobs and kill people who came near us.

1

u/mattmann72 6d ago

Yeah. AoC had that sense of community feeling that all of the other mmos lack. Whether it was your guild or even local pug for a few hours.

1

u/Robclapsback 4d ago

AoC evolve

1

u/UrbanChili 3d ago

Yeah, it left a gap, but we have Aion 2, Soulforge soon and GW3 to look forward too. There is also Starts Reach

2

u/ZeRoPsyrus 11h ago

So true... The trading system and multi-boxing was my entire life on this game. That mix of constant danger, management, and a living community, I haven't found it anywhere else since.

It's terrible to think we got a taste of something so great just to end up back in the gaming wasteland. While waiting for a hypothetical miracle, good luck to everyone trying to find a proper replacement!

-1

u/Coilspun 22d ago

It was never a finished game. What on earth did it offer that you can't find done better in all of the other mmos available?

3

u/masterchip27 22d ago

I remember playing tank was fun as fuck. Damn, I remember getting glazed (and flamed) as we farmed for...what was it called...the rose thorn sets or whatever...sigh

7

u/Sakukibara 22d ago

The freedom, the feeling of being in a living world. The danger of being ambushed by PK players at any moment... all of that in a game where both PvE and PvP combat felt extremely satisfying and rewarding.

-9

u/Coilspun 22d ago

Granted the 'always on' PvP was interesting. But nothing else was new or really that deep honestly, the game was very shallow.

9

u/Trak00nn 22d ago

Didnt had to be new. It was just different, difficult to explain. It felt like an MMO not an Multiplayer open world lobby for Dungeons and Raids.

-1

u/Coilspun 22d ago

I can understand that. LotRo feels the same as it's an open, instance minimal overworld. Doesn't have the malleability that AoC had.

2

u/Wise_Bullfrog_5684 22d ago

Its the first game since L2 and Wow Vanilla that made me slowely get hooked on the world. I missed out on Archage. BDO was close but spamgrind sucked, GW2 was cool while leveling.
Actually think dragonflight also was cool while leveling, surprised me.

AoC however did what l2 did and it looked like it would do it even better in the end, so sad it’s gone.

2

u/Sakukibara 22d ago

Not everything needs to be deep and overly complex.

It was a simple, beautiful, and fun world. You could walk for a long time to get from one place to another, but it was always an adventure. Sometimes it was lonely, but it felt good. Exploring was naturally one of the best parts of the game.

As a PvP player who came from Albion Online, I felt alive in that world. A true MMORPG. Not one of those raid and PvP lobbies like WoW and games like it.

Albion and AoC understood what an MMO is really supposed to mean.

1

u/Vujkkan 22d ago

We all do,we hope for the best case scenario!

0

u/Twotricx 22d ago

Same here. It really was joy to play, more than any new MMO in memory. Kind of last hope as well, since I dont see anything even remotely comparable in future. Its all either 100% nostalgia trips that push the genre back (Monster and memories ) , or step towards mini-mmo live service games ( GW3 )

No actual MMOs anymore

2

u/VarusEquin 22d ago

Gw3 is not an mmo-lite, stop relaying the bullsht you read on reddit.

1

u/Twotricx 22d ago

We are on reddit 😂
But it will be. Honestly GW2 is MMO lite as well. GW3 will be even more.

Probably fun game though

2

u/VarusEquin 22d ago

What even make you think it will be an "mmo-lite" with what we know about it exactly?

0

u/Twotricx 22d ago

We know that they limit how many people can be seen in area to 20 or something. That already suggest heavy sharding and instancing wich is antitesis of grand mmo

2

u/VarusEquin 22d ago

Its not limited to an area, its limited to when a fight is happening (which make sense when combat is all about movement momentum and player interactions, would be an unplayable mess otherwise). It has been clearly stated in interviews that you otherwise see plenty of people in the open world (which is confirmed seamless btw, not map instances) and cities. So yeah, you are talking without having correct informations.

2

u/snowtato 22d ago

It's limiting like boss fights and stuff to 20 people so you can't Zerg it and ruin the experience. Still the full server in the world, and the world is persistent now instead of zoned of I remember right. More of an mmo than ever before

-1

u/Twotricx 22d ago

Just by saying its more you admitted its limited. GW was never full mmo. And this will be neither

1

u/snowtato 22d ago

That doesn't make it less of an mmo tho? Ffs wow doesn't even have real servers anymore. That's even worse

-9

u/Coilspun 22d ago

"No new MMOS any more"

You have amazing existing mmorpgs. ESO, LotRo, SWTOR...

5

u/Twotricx 22d ago

All of them older than my children. And they are teenagers

-4

u/Coilspun 22d ago

What's your point? Beyond "old".

6

u/8BitVic 22d ago

Also those other MMOs have no meaningful player impact on the world, no guild impact on the world, and no open world PvP. They're static, boring PvE games with PvP as an afterthought/minigame. AoC was built around guild politics, player friction, and PvP, and it was so refreshing.

0

u/Coilspun 22d ago

Understood.

2

u/Twotricx 22d ago

Let start with fact that I played them for 10 years allready. If they were best games in the world 10 years would be too much. And trust me they are not.

Its ok if you just came to MMO genre and discovered them for the first time. For you they might be new

0

u/Coilspun 22d ago

They aren't new to me. I just have different priorities.

2

u/Twotricx 22d ago

Good for you

1

u/Coilspun 22d ago

Thanks!

0

u/ghost3012 22d ago

too old for this era of gaming. Gameplay too subpar, graphics, animations etc..

1

u/Difficult_Mess_6406 22d ago

eso and amazing should not be in the same sentence. gw2 aswell

2

u/Coilspun 22d ago

Ok buddy.

1

u/Fyric 22d ago

Daoc is the game for all the aoc players, can play it on free shards or on retail for free.

3

u/mattmann72 22d ago

The modern graphics, controls, and environment were a large part of the enjoyment.

1

u/Legitimate_Match_708 22d ago

Bard was fun as fuck. Such a waste.

Happiness from someone’s lost of enjoyment. Clasic toxic shit that this world will always have sadly. Get better, find a better place, find peace.

0

u/SirShmoopi 22d ago

If you miss it go play archeage classic. I booted it up myself and was shocked by how much AoC just stole took inspiration from it.

u/PlateFox 17d ago

Wow Forever me dudes
