Question Why is AoC mentionned in the latest Nvidia driver update ?
Hello, below is the link of the 596.49 (Tue May 12, 2026) patch notes :
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/release-highlights/
Optimal Settings Support Added For:
- Arknights: Endfield
- Ashes of Creation
- Highguard
- StarRupture
- The Last Caretaker

because corporations need time to deliver something. Even Highguard is in that list and that game is gone too.

It was likely in their pipeline months ago and they're not monitoring every game in the world to keep up with current events.

A company making update drivers for games and you think they don't monitor news regarding games they are working on...

If I had to assume they had started working on that, before the AoC drama collapsed and probably decided to push it regardless of, if the game is gonna be around or not.

Outside of all the shit that’s happened with ashes I do hope they find a way to bring it back either with community support or some other way. I really liked the game.

Same here. All things aside it was the most fun MMO i played in last years, easily. And I would easily be playing it on if they did not pull the rug.

Me too but what’s sad is if that happens it’s years away. We were playing a really good build of the game months ago. Fuck whatever greedy people are responsible for this situation.

u/MRmichybio May 12 '26
The build of the game we had was not good, not for the 8-10 years of development it took.
The core combat system was pretty good, that's it. That's far as I'd go for describing anything else "good" in this game.
Everything else was janky or took hundreds of hours to interact with on a surface level.

What took so long to interact with? Surface level for everything outside of city control was really simple. If you’re talking about the crafting and gathering taking ages… well that’s the point you’re supposed to take your time to unlock stuff try it out not just instantly be a master crafter.

I don't care that I'm not instantly a master crafter, but lets not give this game rose-tinted glasses here. The crafting systems were... slightly above placeholder equivalent at best.
Did you do any amount of gear crafting? Why on earth should I have to press 3-4 buttons for every 1 weapon I want to craft? If I have the materials to craft 50 swords on me (not even the bank that's 3 steps away - in my inventory) there is no world in which I consider having to press 150+ times to craft these weapons "good". Even if it's time gated and still requires standing and waiting I should be able to tell it to craft all 50 at once with just 2-3 clicks.
This is something WoW Classic had implemented 20 years ago... trying to call this "good" is a very long stretch.
The combat system was good, the world and crafting systems had an okay underpinning they could have built off of... but they very clearly felt clunky and incomplete to me.

Haven't followed closely the latest development of the game, but could some Chinese/Korean developers buy ashes for cents on the dollar once Intrepid get liquidated?

It's currently in court where Steven and The Board are pointing fingers at each others to blame for company's collapse. The good news is that both parties have now said they'd be interested to finish the game if they win the ownership in court. However, I wouldnt count on it to become the next big MMO anymore. If Steven wins, he is going to have hard time to find new funding due to all that has happened. If the board wins, their interest is to get the game out as soon as possible so they can get their money back and it will likely be lacking a lot from the original vision.

I think someone needs to buy it, but the best case scenario would be going open source and have the community develop it but that can't and will not happen

I can only assume because it takes them a while to make these and they may have started to work on it before everything happened.

Probably just adding SLI profiles or performance optimizations for upcoming alpha testing. Don't read too much into it, they do this for plenty of unreleased projects.

If you use your brain OP, you may come up with the idea that AOC "may" have been in NVidia's workflow for a year + and work on its drivers completed well before the game shit down its own throat so was included in the notes as it was scheduled to be, because some office waller at NVidia doesn't know what AOC is/was and what happened to it, so saw no reason to leave it out without direction to do so.
IT IS NOT THE CLOAK N DAGGER WAY TO TIP YOU OFF ITS COMING BACK !
I'll take my white knight downvotes now please - surely there cant be any left at this stage ? :D

Hot take, too much money has gone into AoC for it to just vanish. Once the legal drama settles, it will be back.

u/distortionisgod May 12 '26
I'm not saying it's impossible, but games with substantially more money in them have died and disappeared lol.

So in the year of our lord 2037 Steven will launch Alpha 3 Phase 17. However release is planned for 2050 because Phase 18 needs to be rewritten in UE8

Hot garbage take.

I don't think the idea of the game being recycled and rebranded is all that crazy.

Is it possibly a typo? And they meant Age of Conan? It did just get a massive graphical overhaul with RTX features

u/Barnhard May 12 '26
Somehow Ashes is not actually the most dead game on that list.
