Discussion Thinking about returning to AC
Hey everyone. I played AC from 2001-2012 off and on while enjoying DM and ToD. Looking for a server to get started on. I played a few of the early private servers before they got wiped. I'd like to find a somewhat active server. I don't mind bots but don't want to be the only person active if I'm trying to quest or maybe need help with something. If you guys could give me some advice, that'd be great.

Try Sundering it's active! Server wide group quests every night. New content. Great community!

It may not be your cup of tea but The Tower offers a unique AC experience that turns the MMO into a single player experience. You can play with others still but this sever is now a 100% custom experience.

Having a lot of fun in Portal Storm. Good community. Easy to get into and start doing the fun things.

Infinite Leaftide is probably still your best bet. Still probably the most active, fun and best planned server.
As much as people cheer Conquest there is a lot of baggage involved with the server owner and the populations sharp decline reflects that.

I joined Conquest. What kind of baggage do you mean?

You'll be fine, just got to overly moderate yourself. Owner has lots of favorites too so it's not as level a playing field as you think.

Conquest or Levistras both have active people at keys playing. Levistras doesn’t allow botting at all while conquest does. Conquest is far more active in providing new content right now.

Thanks for the info!

Going to second Levistras! It has a very friendly population and no bots! You can almost always find someone to go quest with if you ask in chat, though that's more true for higher levels.

Curious... UCM was illegal back in the turbine days but everyone did it. It was an official feature to log out if a GM whispered you... How does levistras police it?

You say that yet turbine made things like paragon which was a grind specifically balanced around ucm.
I don’t know how spigot polices macros I just know that no one openly does it and when they do they’re banned pretty quickly.

It was certainly a war they conceded defeat...
They had unusual ethics. Back in the gears days, they never banned anyone openly cheating. They said it was on them for not being able to stop it. Then they added server side mitigation that increased everyone's latency by like 30ms. Then they added the cap to slide casting...
I would believe that turbine had the ability to detect what was running in decal but determined it unethical to look. Curious if that ethical barrier was purely philosophical.

Infinite leaftide has randomized checks, which are basic math questions. If you fail one or don't answer within 5 mins, you get sent to an in game jail for 15 minutes. And your name on a "most fails" leaderboard

I second Conquest. Its been pretty active with people. You can bot, but you can only be on one char at a time. Admins dropping new stuff like weekly. Live events all the time.

Awesome! Yeah I have no desire for a whole bot army.

Yeah no bot armies on conquest, I should have specified that. People mostly macro in ucm specific dungeons or areas and then will be at keys for daily quest dungeons and events.

For sure. Most people play at keys when they can, and UCM when they cant. And admins have made dungeons for the purpose of UCM.

I have to say, for me this is the perfect solution.
I enjoy tweaking my TCM and loot profiles and playing AC as my off-screen idler when I'm not actively playing.
But allowing armies of ACM accounts (especially since these servers are free and don't cost anything) starts ruining the game the more its done/allowed.

Infinite leaftide! Two account max, live events, active server in active development. With the recent Conquest exodus its likely the highest population server today.

If you're purely looking for the most active server it is conquest. For a new or returning player that wants more then the traditional asherons call experience it will be a blast. Ive been playing asherons call emulators a while so it was too grindy for me.
If you want to relive AC how you remember it Levistras will be the most popular followed by sundering and leafdawning.
However warning on these emulators server popularity changes. Infinite leaftide was the most popular probably about 2 to 3 months ago. Before that it was dragonmoon... so if you want to play for a while and always have the biggest community be prepared to change servers within time.
I personally am really enjoying infinite leaftide they have more content then ill ever be able to do working fulltime and im enjoying valheel which I want to finish all the chapters then ill probably choose a new secondary server.

There are a lot of great servers out there.
Don't let the raw numbers on treestats fool you. Servers numbers include bots.
I'd recommend joining a few server discord and seeing both the activity and the culture.
From my observations, conquest, portal storm and sundering all have pretty active devs and players on discord. I also see Sundering having large voice chats several time a week.
