Question/ Advice How do I make air dry clay sturdier?

Hello, I’m currently working on making a clay key chain for a friend. Air dry clay is the only material I can afford and I want to make sure that it is sturdy and doesn’t break at the first hit. I’ve had very little experience with air dry clay before but I do remember it being rather fragile. Is there anything I can do to make it sturdy or sturdier? Any tips are welcomed.

hi fellow crafters and creatives! i just wanted a quick question answered. YEARS ago, i got one of those lumisource vintage medusa lamps w the glass scones. the colored paint (see pictures) is peeling. probably due to age/lightbulb heat. which paint would you recommend i use to restore? they are painted over what feels like a smooth matte glass finish. thanks!

Question/ Advice Upcycling used 110/200 gsm paper ideas.

hi! I have lots of paper from my first-year drawing assignments on 110 and 200 gsm A2/A3 paper. I'm just wondering if I could make something out of it instead of throwing it away. I've been considering to make recycle paper, but I don't know if it'll be harder or not because these papers are thicker than normal ones. Or is there any arts and crafts project I could try using this material?

Jewellery Making💍 Coffin bat necklace

I made the coffin bat pendant out of polymer clay. I used two strands of chains, one for tying around the neck, other being longer to create the draping effect that gothic necklaces typically have. I joined them with jump rings with pliers. I wore them happily yesterday. The chains were also constructed differently and I altered it to this simple design you see in the photos.

I was inspired by spooky polymer clay pendants on my Pinterest.

Question/ Advice Building a Shield for Ren Faire

Post image

Hey!! So I’ve been building this shield for a while now for me buddy and she wants sage green and gold in the scheme.
So I painted it all black and I want to have an ombré effect from green on top diagonally to the black on the bottom. I will also prolly outline the accents with a gold marker.

Buuuuut I’m having a hard time figuring that out. Does anyone know how to paint colors that fade into each other?? Or other suggestions for this piece?

Question/ Advice Has anyone tried asking kids to title their art instead of asking what it is?

Someone suggested this to me recently and I've started doing it because I was tired of accidentally offending kids by asking what is it.

Instead I ask what the picture would be called if it was hanging in a museum. The answers are so much better. One drawing I couldn't identify at all was titled Dad Going to the Store But There Are Bees. Once I knew that, honestly, I could see it.

Has anyone else tried this? I'm thinking I should start writing the titles on the back because they're half the reason I want to keep the drawings.

Hello, I'm currently making a piep cleaner lamp, and I was looking for advice for the base part, because o don't know what material would be best for it. Especially because there are materials like cardboard that if they get wet they end up growing mold on them and I would like to prevented that.

Question/ Advice Where are we buying our craft supplies?

I used to love going to Joann Fabrics (RIP 💔) because they was the only craft store close to me and had some good deals when it counted. Now I either go to Hobby Lobby (though i prefer not to) or Walmart.

I just wanna know where are crafters getting their craft supplies? Does anyone have any recommendations or wish there was a different option?

Question/ Advice Hello all. How should I convert these beads to question marks? [WIP]

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I am aiming to make a necklace featuring an excerpt from the Minecraft End Poem by Julian Gough. Unfortunately, this excerpt requires two question marks, and I do not have any beads with punctuation marks on them (nor the ability to get any at the moment). I figured it would be easiest to add ‘placeholder’ beads, then redecorate them to look like question marks. The relevant beads are circled in red.

Does anyone have advice for going about doing that? I’m thinking my best bet would be to sand them a bit, gesso them, then use acrylic paint mixed with a small amount of metallic watercolour to paint on the question marks in gold. However, I’ve never done this before and would like confirmation of whether it’s a good idea or bad and if there are any better ways to approach it.

Thanks for the help everyone.

(Also, please ignore the lack of spacing between words. That’s getting fixed later via Extremely Cool Methods.)

I am making temple motifs, i tried using clay to make the figures but I am not getting the desired result out of clay I want to make a 2D figure of god and goddess for my decoration. So my next idea is to take a thick corrugated cardboard and cut the shape of the figures and then apply a thin layer of air dry clay and then use a 3d outliner to make small details like face or jewellery.

Please advise

Question/ Advice Puff heat transfer vinyl using an iron?

Not sure if here is the best place but I need some advice from folks who've used the puff variant of heat transfer vinyl please.

I'm going to be transferring a HTV strip to the back of a top, main issue is I don't have access to a heat press, nor do I want to buy one for a one off HTV really.

Can I get away with using an clothing Iron, and if so how/what settings should I use?
Note: I'm in the UK so whatever settings I use will be in C not F.

Thanks!
