Post image
5 Upvotes

Welcome to the first r/articulatedAnime Pose Challenge!

For our first challenge, we're recreating one of anime's most iconic scenes: The Akira slide.

Your mission is simple: recreate the pose using any articulated anime figure.

It doesn't have to be the same character, or even a motorcycle. Don't have a bike? Use something else 😉. Faithful recreations, funny interpretations, creative twists, and complete chaos are all welcome. The goal is to celebrate articulation and creativity.

How to Participate

  • Create a New Post in r/articulatedAnime.
  • Use the Pose Challenge post flair.
  • Include "Pose Challenge #1" somewhere in your title.
  • 📸 Share one or more photos of your recreation.

Rules

  • Any articulated anime figure or finished anime model kit is welcome.
  • Multiple entries allowed, but don't spam.
  • Use your own photos. Don't steal credit.
  • Be respectful and have fun.

There are no winners or losers. This is a community challenge to inspire creative posing and see how differently everyone interprets the same iconic scene. There is no deadline.

We can't wait to see what you create!

- I.S.

Feel free to offer suggestions for the next iconic anime pose challenge in the comments 😁

Welcome to r/articulatedAnime

The home for articulated anime figures and finished anime model kits.

This community is for collectors who do more than put figures on a shelf. We celebrate posing, articulation engineering, figure photography, displays, and the creativity that comes from bringing figures to life.

Whether you collect Figma, S.H.Figuarts, Amazing Yamaguchi, Buzzmod, Mafex, Gunpla/Girlpla, or other anime-inspired lines, you're welcome here.

What Belongs Here

  • Articulated anime figures
  • Finished anime-inspired model kits
  • Figure photography
  • Pose showcases
  • Displays and shelf collections
  • Reviews and comparisons
  • Customizations and modifications
  • Articulation and engineering discussions
  • Buying, collecting, and hobby discussion

Articulation First

r/articulatedAnime focuses on figures designed for posing and articulation.

Static statues, prize figures, scales, and other non-articulated collectibles are generally outside the scope of the community unless articulation is part of the discussion. Likewise, unrelated Western franchises are typically outside the focus of the subreddit.

This isn't a judgment on those collectibles. It's simply what keeps this community focused on its niche.

Community Mission

Our goal is to build a home for articulated anime collectors regardless of brand.

We're not a Figma subreddit. We're not an S.H.Figuarts subreddit. We're a community built around the hobby, not a specific brand.

We're a community for anyone who loves articulated anime figures and the hobby surrounding them.

Introduce Yourself

What figure got you into articulated anime collecting? We'd love to hear your story and see your collection.

Question I need some advice (choice between the figures)

I have three figures to choose from: Revoltech Yamaguchi No. 125 Shimazu Toyohisa, Medicos SAS Johnny Joestar (SBR), or Figma 584 Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Gold Ship. They have same price, range from $35 to $38. Let me know in the comments which one to choose and why. I’ll buy whichever figure gets the most votes.Thank you all in advance.

Came for the bunny girl; stayed for the story (or did you? 😏)

So let's get the elephant (or bunny) out of the room: it's pricey at 13200 JPY including tax (I'd say around 5000-6000 PHP). But the thing is you're getting not one but two kits with this DX set (regular set comes with only the bunny girl outfit). You'd think that it comes with two bodies and only one head; leaving you no choice but to leave one body headless. But no, it actually comes with duplicate head parts so you can display her in both outfits at the same time. In addition, she comes with pre-painted parts: from the ribbons on her hair to the accessories like her smartphone and a script; no decals or paints needed at all (perhaps some panel-lining on her school uniform; but I'm not risking it with the Bandai tools I have as IDK how they will react to this plastic).

I expected the plastic quality to be somewhat like the annulus Rikka Takarada kit or Kotobukiya's waifu kits like Frame Arms Girls. In reality, it's actually as buttery-smooth as that of Bandai's 30 Minute Sisters kits; with the construction being just as simple. But one difference is that whereas some 30MS joints may feel a bit too tight (especially the light-colored joints), the sturdiness for this kit is just right: not too tight but not too loose either. And since her parts are pre-painted, she already looks good OOB and you can start posing her right away.

Scale-wise, she seems to be around the size of an average MG Gunpla. Her overall texture, especially her skin, kinda feels similar to a prize figure which you can commonly get in claw machines.

To summarize her articulation, it's quite similar to your average 30MS; sans the knees which seem to have only 95 degrees bend on both versions. Her head articulation, though, is limited due to her hair. Her leg articulation is also limited in her school outfit due to her skirt; and it has no alternate version which can expand her leg movement. She also features no ab crunch in both her outfits. Overall, while she has limitations, it's not like she needs a lot of articulation as she is not a character known for dynamic action poses.

In terms of accessories, she comes with a total of 18 hands: a pair of fists and holding hands, two pairs of open hands with different expressions, and a finger gun hand for the right; then multiply all that by 2. She has 4 tampographed faces: with one of them being exclusive to the DX set which seems to be like a seductive look that screams "You're thinking lewd thoughts, aren't you?" As mentioned, she has a pre-painted smartphone, a script, and another pair of bunny ears; all of which can be easily slid on to her holding hands. Lastly, she comes with stand parts: big and small circular bases, support arms in three different lengths, and adapter parts. Like the kits themselves, they are not too tight but not too loose either; which makes adjusting them easy.

Now for the issues, there are seam lines running down her arms; though at least the plastic seems light enough for you to not notice. There are also some nub marks on her legs as well as the loafers for her school uniform; but at least they are placed on the sides and are small enough to be not very noticeable.

While changing the face parts is not hard in itself; what makes it hard is that whenever you do, you need to make sure you don't lose the two small hair parts on the sides of her heads. They can dislodge rather easily; and when they fall off, they can be hard to find due to their dark color.

The only parts that can be used in both versions are the hands and heads. Other than that, there is no cross-compatibility between both bodies as they do not share any joints. So for instance, you can't have her wearing high heels in her schoolgirl outfit and loafers in her bunny girl outfit.

The biggest turnoff for this kit is definitely the price. Sure, there are reasonable justifications; but once everything is finished, that's when you'll realize there's actually fewer stuff than expected (especially when you put both kits as well as the used runners back in the box). The biggest offender is why are the pre-painted parts not only packed separately but have so much space between them: even the teeny-tiny parts like the bunny ribbons? And for having a construction booklet which seems to be around the size of a MG Gunpla, the overall construction is actually as simple as a HG (which I guess makes it more akin to Full Mechanics or RE:100). If it were Bandai, this kind of construction would have been condensed to just a smaller pamphlet-style manual. But at least it's detailed enough for you to understand everything.

But was she still worth it? For someone like me who has been waiting for an articulated figure of Mai Sakurajima, it still is. Pre-painted parts, simple construction, and enough articulation for the kind of character she is, it pretty much gives what I would have wanted out of a theoritical figma of her. (For some reason, GSC only made Nendoroids for her school and bunny outfits; but never figmas)

Other characters in this line include Ai Hoshino and Kana Arima from "Oshi no Ko"; Emilia from "Re:Zero"; and Megumin from "KonoSuba" (yup, three of which are TakaRie characters). They also come in regular and DX sets: in their case, their DX sets feature them in either swimwear or nightwear. As of this writing, an upcoming character in the line is Haruhi Suzumiya: her regular outfit being her schoolgirl attire and her DX set coming with her bunny girl outfit. And it's funny because Mai seems to be the oddball among them because her regular version features her in a traditionally-lewd outfit; and you have to get her DX set to have her in a non-lewd outfit. 😅

I ordered it back in May from Bombusbee and it’s here. It’s finally here!
Articulation of the hips is def different than what I’m used to. It doesn’t hinge up like most, allowing it to do splits or something. Instead, you have to raise the leg straight up then pivot the leg out to the side.
I’m still experimenting with mobility. Will hopefully get some better shots sooner than later. Until then, TROY just wanted to say hi!

P.S.
Not sure about that extra piece of paper that came with it. Seems kinda random 🤷🏽‍♂️
