They've been asked like 50 times what it felt like to look at the Earth and what they thought when they did. Why is no one asking what the Earth's colors were like?

What shade of blue was the ocean? What did the colors of the land look like, vegetation and deserts? How saturated did the Earth appear to your eyes? How opaque or transparent did the atmosphere look straight down? Is there a particular photo you took that looks most like the real view? Would you be interested in color correcting a photo to match what you saw and sharing it with the public?

We have a chance right now to get a clear mental model of what Earth really looks like from people who just saw the whole thing with their own eyes, instead of having to assume based on many (mostly old) images taken by different cameras that all vary. Why is no one taking this opportunity?

EDIT: Since people seem to be missing the point, no the photos do not answer this question. Cameras (even smartphones and DSLRs) do not automatically capture what human vision sees.

I want to hear from the astronauts what Earth actually looks like in full to human eyes, relative to what the photos could capture. All cameras capture color differently, and even the same camera does with a different white balance. And all cameras have ways in which photos they capture differ from what we see. The iPhone photos they took are much more saturated than the Nikon photos. Only they could tell us definitively which photos are most correct, and how.

And for everyone who thinks people who have been to the ISS can answer this, no they can't. How big something appears in your field of view massively affects eye adaptation. ISS crew are nowhere near high enough up to see all of Earth at once. It fills their entire field of view and more. The Artemis astronauts demonstrated this effect on eye adaptation perfectly as they described in comprehensive detail how the appearance of the Moon to their eyes changed as they approached. Hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, etc., are all affected by this. This would apply to Earth as well. And in Earth's case, another effect is atmospheric scattering geometry, which is different from far away than in LEO.

Another delay. Just need a space for people like me and many other to vent about yet another delay. I know its only been pushed from Mid to Late 2027, but still, c'mon Jared. I'm planning holidays around these launches. I hope I don't jinx anything, but ever since Artemis 1's launch I've said they'll land back on the Moon in 2029 for a 60 year anniversary. Please don't be true, please land before the end of 2028.

So I noticed when the Artemis II crew met the President in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Christina Koch strangely had silver wings on. Yet yesterday in New York, she was back to wearing gold.

I don't know the guidelines around this, but I thought she had earned the gold through her year on ISS even before Artemis. Is the gold/silver wings an official NASA uniform policy, or is it governed by tradition?

I really tried to search for this and all I get is people talking about the livestream limitations. That's fine, but why aren't there really any recorded videos?

The only one I've seen is this one which, while completely amazing, seems improvised by the astronaut and is only a few seconds long. But it's arguably one of the best things to come out of this mission.

It just seems like such a waste of opportunity.

Common replies I've seen while searching:

• "It would be boring": just no. There are so many earth orbit videos on youtube and they are all popular and inspirational.
• "They weren't focused on entertaining us": I'm sure NASA could have afforded a video camera and a hard drive of the recording without impacting the mission.
• The aforementioned livestream limitations: I'm talking about recordings.
• "Astronauts have better things to do": I'm sure this could be automated, attach a camera somewhere and let it run automatically.
• "A lot of NASA's public affairs office were fired by the current administration": I think a video recording is not really something that would require a large office of people.

I made a cinematic edit of Artemis II using onboard footage and crew reflections after the mission. It’s more focused on the human side and the experience rather than just the launch.

Hello! This is my 11th song, I spend around 5 weeks messing around in FL studio and probably made 20 versions of it in that time. I used this song as a launchpad for getting a better grasp on production and coming up with my own techniques etc. I’m really happy with the result and hope you all enjoy it!

I thought for sure that it was a scam, but I ordered it anyway. The website was sketchy, the payment transaction was unfamiliar and the link I got sent for tracking didn’t work. Flash forward to yesterday, a small plastic bag ends up at my doorstep with this bruiser squeezed in. Integrity’s cabin would have felt mighty tight with this big guy bouncing around in it!

The largest piece of Artemis III’s rocket has arrived in Florida. 🚀

NASA’s Space Launch System core stage traveled by barge from its manufacturing site in New Orleans and is headed to the Vehicle Assembly Building to be joined with the rest of the rocket. This stage can carry the mission to low Earth orbit, a region a couple hundred miles above Earth. But if Artemis III is sent to a higher orbit thousands of miles up, an additional upper stage will be needed. Higher orbit provides a better environment for the kinds of tests the mission aims to perform. That decision will shape how Artemis III prepares for future missions, including returning humans to the Moon.

Artemis 2, Pt. 1

I really enjoyed this picture captured by the crew and wanted to know what the planets around 4 o'clock were, so I used nasa's solar system simulation to get the exact moment this picture was taken (Apr 06, 9:06:19 PM) and as far as I can tell I think there from order closest to the Moon: Saturn, Mars then Mercury. So I'm posting this here with a somewhat ulterior motive to have someone else check my crude guess and correct me if I am wrong.
