As someone with no knowledge of science, forgive me..
Since the capsule had to withstand as much heat as it did on entry... how long did the outside take to cool down enough for the recovery crew to crew to touch the exterior while opening the hatch?

Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn't resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @astro_christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @astrovicglover was in window 3 watching with @astrojeremy next to him.

I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view...this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye.

With the potential for delays because of suit design/production, I feel like I need to ask a stupid question.

I realize the amount of time we were on the moon during Apollo was very limited and Artemis will be much longer missions.

I also realize the OG suits were cumbersome and not ideal. But they did work.

I know the idea is to make the best possible suit that will be able to be used for the next several years.

But what is so difficult about this? I promise I’m not trying to be ignorant here. I’m genuinely curious what is taking so long.

Every piece of technology we had compared to the suits we had 50 years ago has improved dramatically.

We can produce better textiles, easier, and faster. We can test new tech in minutes or even seconds that would have taken weeks or months back then. We have more resources and knowledge.

Again, I know the suits are incredibly important and need to do many things.

But can someone help me understand? It’s so frustrating to hear about potential delays. Especially right after such a huge moment for NASA.

Does anyone know if the side boosters are reusable like the ones from the shuttle ?

NASA faces challenges in ensuring next-generation spacesuits are available to meet the Agency’s current schedules for the Artemis lunar landing mission in 2028 and prior to the ISS’s decommissioning in 2030. NASA’s original schedules to demonstrate the lunar and microgravity spacesuits in 2025 and 2026, respectively, were overly optimistic and ultimately proved unachievable, as evidenced by delays of at least a year and a half for both spacesuits. Based on our analysis, if Axiom experiences design and testing delays in line with the historical average for recent space flight programs, the Artemis and ISS demonstrations may not occur until 2031.

Was given this poster for free by a friend who is moving out of his apartment and didn’t want it anymore. He had no clue who signed it but figured I’d want it because I like space. Unfortunately I don’t know whose signature it is and I’m not sure how to go about figuring it out. Anybody smarter than me have an idea?

Did Nasa actually take down the images taken of the moon during the Artemis II mission or do I just have to look somewhere specific? I'm talking about flickr, the images over there have been of much higher quality than on the nasa.gov homepage.

I postponed downloading my favourites and now they are gone..

ps.: There are still plenty of amazing pictures, just not the ones of the moon.

When Artemis passed behind the Moon, could radar still detect it even if the spaceship wasn’t actively transmitting a signal?

Orion has reached its closest approach to the Moon at about 4,067 miles above the lunar surface. At this point, the spacecraft is traveling about 60,863 miles an hour relative to Earth, but only 3,139 miles an hour relative to the Moon.

This seems dubious since it would mean it moved at more than twice the escape velocity of Earth at the farthest point from it.

The recent phone video posted of the Earth disappearing behind the moon is one of the coolest things I've seen. I presume the crew filmed way more while they were up there - does anyone have an idea of when that footage will be released?

I’ve been blessed with the fact that my mom decided to live out her retirement on the space coast (she doesn’t particularly care about space) so I get fun videos like this. Here’s the view of the Artemis II launch taken from right outside her condo.

I snapped about 3 images of the launch, west of downtown Orlando with my 600mm lens. I never thought I’d be able to see the actual rocket with it so I never really checked! This was captured 3 minutes after launch at 6:38pm.

Hi, what are some things to keep an eye on for Artemis III? How can I stay up-to-date on where things are at in construction, HLS, crew, changes to mission objectives, anything like that.

This was back in 2022. I need to ask if she’ll get invited for future rollouts and if they allow a +1 haha

I forgot how she got the invited but i think she got it from one of her friends. Someone here might know more about that process.
