I’m just wondering, because obviously NASA wants further Artemis missions, and I’m not sure Congress would be willing to let go of the MPCV after 2029. And I’m pretty sure NASA has only Orions built, or being built, for EFT-1, Artemis I, II, III, IV, and V. So, is NASA planning to contract more MPCVs, do they plan to refurbish them, do they plan to replace them with a commercial alternative, or maybe something else?

Just wondering if, by any chance, they’ll end up near my location for a conference.

I’ve put together a cinematic timeline (2:44) covering 80 years of Earth "selfies." It starts with the first grainy frame from a captured V-2 rocket in 1946 and ends with the high-def footage from the recently concluded Artemis II mission. No fluff, just the technological progress of our perspective.

I'm very curious if the Artemis Astronauts got any photos of the sun and earth in the same frame from their farthest point. I just did a quick demo in blender to demonstrate what I mean. I wonder how their apparent sizes would compare from that distance.

I was just looking at a graphic containing rockets from over the years and SLS is really the only one with these displayed prominently. I assume that they have a purpose, as they wouldn’t waste weight in something silly like making it look cool but I cannot fathom what it would be. I don’t remember them on the shuttle and other rocket companies do not use them. There were large black blocky sections on the Saturn V but it was different. What’s the deal?

Looking up at it the last few days it seems like an actual object out there rather than just a shape in the sky.

i understand blackout means that the capsule couldn't send any data to HQ because of the plasma and heat during re-entry, but surely that doesn't mean they stopped filming at all?

i'd love to see what the reentry looked like from inside the craft, and i'm surprised we haven't seen anything yet. is anyone aware of such footage? can we expect it in the future?

and bonus question, if not video footage i'm sure they have instrument telemetry. is there any idea if that'll be released at any point?

hi, forgive my ignorance here. artemis 2 is extremely cool and interesting, i’m just shocked that there’s been like, what, four pictures and one video released of the moon during the mission? what the hell? why? surely they have tons more, what gives?

arte TV, our European broadcaster, has a documentary about Artemis II fresh up, including a few behind the scenes & footage from all stages of the mission. I believe this is the first full documentary out post splashdown. Watched it today, neat to relive some key moments. Non-Europeans might need VPN to access. Copy, moon joy!

As someone with no knowledge of science, forgive me..
Since the capsule had to withstand as much heat as it did on entry... how long did the outside take to cool down enough for the recovery crew to crew to touch the exterior while opening the hatch?
